Hey Chuck. This is a bit off topic, but I would like your advice. I printed a USPS label with PP to send a couple of giftcards to ABC. I paid $2.60 for 3 oz (first class package), which supposedly includes tracking, but it’s been 4 days now and tracking shows me nothing. What gives?

I’ve sent a few items first class package over the past couple of weeks and tracking has been hit and miss. Unfortunately, given the time of year, I think Priority Mail gets the most tracking attention.

Yeah, you’ll get a notice when it’s delivered. Maybe. Great tracking for something that gets scanned at every waypoint!

post office workers are inconsistent. My understanding is the tracking requires them to scan the bar code to update it. if they don’t scan, there is no update. This sucks for ebay sellers as it can count against on-time shipping if the code isn’t scanned. My only suggestion is that when you drop off the package, have them scan it in front of you.

Seriously, they just don’t scan it? WTH? I just put it in the collection bin to avoid the line. But even if they didn’t scan it when they collected it, shouldn’t they scan it some time later? Maybe only when it gets delivered. At least I’m a little less worried now that I know that I am not the only one.

Yeah you can have a receipt they don’t scan it until it gets to a major distribution center unless you ask most of the time. It will show up…I had one that took 4-5 days to go anywhere a few weeks ago.

*Sorry kids were distracting me and that comment makes no sense haha. Chuck can we get an edit button :).

Ask for them to scan it at the post office and it tends to track better…usually mine don’t get scanned until it’s second or 3rd stop if I just drop it in a box etc.

Unless you sent it priority mail you’re only guaranteed the package will be scanned at final delivery. I drop my FCM packages off at the counter and get them scanned in. Once they’re scanned in they seem to track the entire way. Given the how busy this time of year is I would not be surprised if it only gets scanned at the end.

OK, lesson learned. Next time (if there is one) I’ll do that.

Half of my Priority Mail shipments during off-peak season don’t get scanned until halfway through either…

Better than only final delivery though.

Great… It’s been a full week now and still no tracking, nor have ABC confirmed they received it. Tomorrow I’ll go to the post office to inquire. Any advice? What happens if it’s really lost?

Yes, I dropped it in the box to avoid the line, I didn’t imagine they wouldn’t scan it. I weighed it at the PO, it was less than 2oz, postage bought through PP should be fine.

I was rushing and I forgot to take pictures, but I do have the numbers. Do you think I could get replacement cards with just that?

The important ones were for Chevron gas (I had a couple more small ones I don’t care much about). I don’t think I can sell them as digital ones. I had bought from SVM on eBay, so the transaction shows on PP.
Thanks for the replies.
