Staples: Buy $300 Mastercard Gift Card & Save $20 with Rebate [4/24-4/30]

The Offer

Direct Link (page 9 of next week’s ad)

  • Buy $300 in Mastercard gift cards from a Staples store and save $20 after getting a rebate via the Staples Easy Rebate system

Oddly, the terms don’t say whether the rebate will be in the form of a Staples gift or a Visa prepaid card. I suspect that we’ll be given the option of either one – we’ve seen this in the past that they offered both options, but this is a new thing that they aren’t putting one or the other in the original offer terms.

Another interesting thing is that this offer doesn’t have the ‘Limit 1 per household’ mentioned in the terms. We’ll have to wait to see more details when this goes live.

The rebate receipt will print out at the register, and you can submit the Easy Rebate online.

The Fine Print

  • Valid 4/24/16 until 4/30/16 (starts this coming Sunday)

Our Verdict

Typically, these deals only make sense for those with an INK card from Chase or Amex Simply Cash since these cards earn bonus rewards at office supply stores. It happens that there is currently a targeted Amex Offer on some Amex business cards to get 5% back on Staples purchases of $200 or more, so this Staples deal can be useful to many. This will not stack, however, with the recent Amex Offer since that offer is only valid online.

If you have an easy way to liquidate Mastercard gift cards, then it probably makes sense to buy two $200 cards so as to maximize rewards. Or just buy a $200 and a $100 to trigger the rebate.

If you go to the search bar and put in Staples, there will be other postings about similar offers in the past. The comments thereafter on those threads may have answers to the questions seen here.

Not trying to be impolite, just that some topics have been addressed constantly both here and at FT from compassionate peeps with answers.

Regarding MO purchases, isn’t the payment swipe performed in conjunction with the pin? I don’t participate in that method any longer and just remember the swipe and pin at my local grocer.

Retro Lament: I so wish I had discovered Target Amex EARLIER in the “gold rush” season. When recommended, I had an attitude of “pshaw” because I didn’t believe any AMEX product would be helpful to minimum spend outside of normal spend. And, with a Target 3.5 miles from my house, too. The time I wasted with Bluebird, Wally and HEB…regret.

“Coulda, shoulda, woulda” 😉

Since there is no mention of a limit, anyone going to try purchasing 3 cards ($200 x 3) and seeing if two rebates print instead of one?

limit 1 as always… the last time the limit was more than 1 was about 4-5 years ago… pretty safe to assume the limit will always be 1.

I am trying to pay off my AAA car insurance with an Amex credit card. AAA doesn’t accept Amex, so I am planning to buy this and use MC to pay off. Is there a better way to use my Amex (I am trying to meet minimum spend for this Amex)?
