What Credit Cards Should I Look At For Weird Wednesdays?

We’ve been running a series called Weird Wednesdays for a while now (you can view all of the posts in the series here), where every week on Wednesday we look at a slightly weird credit card. The last couple of weeks I haven’t been posting any weird Wednesday posts (I’ve just been too busy and they are quite time intensive).

I still have some cards that I’d like to cover in this series, but I’m quickly running out of ideas. I love writing this series and it’s quite popular, so I thought I’d ask the readers if they know of any weird credit cards that might be worth a second look.

You can either let me know via e-mail ([email protected]) or by commenting below. If it’s something truly weird and fantastic, I’d love for you to e-mail me about it so I’ve got time to write an in depth post without worrying about others writing about it first.

I came across this while opening a checking account for a bonus at m&t. Card seems to be pretty much on par with capital one quicksilver with a $100 bonus. Not worth a whole lot with the 2% cards out there but it may be worth looking into.

Is the Gap Visa card weird enough to qualify for Weird Wednesdays? It gives 1% back in the form of Gap Rewards, but once in a while they offer promos. They are currently doing 3X everywhere and have offered 5x at grocery. Works well at the mall where I pay $7.90 (2 gift cards) to get $30.24 of Gap rewards. Of course the Gap is way overpriced, but it keeps my wife happy. Rewards can be used at any of the Gap brands.

I’m a fan of the Johnny Cash pre-paid mastercard.

I keep hearing rumors about small credit unions with uncapped 5% groceries and other oddities. Perhaps something like that? Uncover some new gems?

I’m torn on this one. If the rumors are true, I would sure like to know where to find these cards. At the same time, I’d rather do the legwork myself as if it gets posted publicly, it will get killed in no time.

I mean that’s always the dilemma about any deal, right? But it’s nice to hear about something outside of the typical Chase/Citi/Amex/Barclay/CapitolOne/Discover grind. Otherwise maybe you can cover funny cards that offer god-awful “rewards” to people with really bad credit.

It is. But I would think the percentage spike in purchases for a major card issuer would be less noticeable than an obscure credit union suddenly see their applications and rewards payouts go through the roof.

Put these in your weekly newsletter rather than having it in the open. Thanks.
