The Fine Print

Our Verdict

You’ll want to read these two posts before considering this:

This is a pretty great offer as there is no pull hard and you should be able to get this bonus even if you’ve held the card before (just make sure to check the fine print as some of these upgrade offers contain the no bonus language). In addition there are datapoints of people upgrading to a card they’ve never had before, getting the upgrade bonus and then still being eligible for another bonus down the track.

If you have any questions surrounding upgrade offers, I strongly recommend you read this post first. You can read our guide to the new American Express Platinum benefits here. There are also currently the following upgrade offers on other cards:

I have a ~10 year old Amex Clear card and I see this 60K upgrade offer on the same. I see the offer among the list of eligible Amex Offers. I am very interested in this but have couple of questions:

1. I have never had Amex Platinum before. What’s the best strategy to double dip – get the public 60K offer and also the upgrade offer?
2. I couldn’t find any information (either on upgrade offer or the public offer) that states that MRs are not given out when the applicant hasn’t had the card in the past. What and where exactly should I look for these exclusion terms?

Found the answer to #2, but still interested to know the answer to #1.

75k link works for me but $20k spend is just too much.

I don’t think this works anymore. I used to have it show up a lot and make it show up easily, but now that i’ve actually decided to upgrade the offer doesn’t show up anymore.

I’ve been looking everywhere, but can’t find a good answer:

Is it ok to MS for part, or most, of the min spend needed for an Amex signup bonus these days? I know there were issues with MS for leaked Plats, but haven’t read much other than that. I have this offer on my PRG and plan to take it, but I will need to MS to hit the spend. Would hate to spend $550 on the AF, and only have the credits to take advantage of, without receiving the 60k MR…

I have the same thing pop up. Was think of doing it, but $20k for 75k is ALOT of spend. Do you think it’s worth it?

I received this 60k upgrade offer for my PRG. It flashed at the top of the screen when I logged into Amex from my laptop. On my 23rd month with the card right now.

Does it still show up for you if you log in? Can’t get mine to pop up anymore and phone support says it never existed.

Lucky! I can’t get mine to show up anymore. I can’t get the pop up window to show up anymore. I like how all the reps i talked to on the phone say that no offer like that exists, 60k was only for new applicants lol.
