$20 Off $300 In Visa Gift Cards At Office Max (Limit 2 Discounts, Not Enforced)

The Offer

  • Receive $20 off instantly at the register when you purchase $300 in Visa gift cards.

The Fine Print

  • Valid until December 26th, 2015
  • Limit 2 discounts per customer ($40 off $600 is the most you can get according to the terms). This isn’t usually hardcoded. Update: This isn’t hardcoded, you might be able to purchase more than $600 in gift cards and get the $20 discount per $300 depending . Keep in mind that if you purchase $1,000 or more then you’ll be required to enter some information for their anti money laundering system.
  • Discount comes off instantly at register
  • Office Max only, offer is not showing at Office Depot reportedly

Our Verdict

The fees are $6.95 per $200 card, your best bet is to purchase three $200 gift cards, this will trigger $40 in discounts so you’ll end up paying $580.85. Basically $20 profit, plus whatever you get from the credit card rewards (make sure to use a card that earns at a high rate on office supply stores).

  • Bought 3x200s in two separate transactions at 2 separate OMs in the area i.e $600 at each PM for total of $1200 in VGCs. Checked balance on 1 card from each purchase and showing invalid. What am I doing wrong? Do they need some sort of activation?

  • location i went to had a lot of 200 and hardly any 100's left. However, the bar code was exposed on 2/3 of them. luckily i found a few 200 that were covered. Been burned once with an exposed bar code so wouldnt have taken the risk. Best part there is a walmart in the same shopping center so able to load to bluebird 5 minutes after buying them.

  • Had no issue buying $1800 in Colorado. didn't trigger the AML because the manager let me split it into two $900 transactions. Only had $100 GC left, so it made the $900 more feasible.

  • My local OfficeMax crew had no clue how to make it work for 3x200 or 600 in one transaction. So I had to do two transaction of 400 each. Meanwhile, a few weeks ago during the previous deal, they had no problem making 600 work.

  • I rang up $600 worth for a toal of $580.XX. The register asked for a system authorization and I didn't even swipe my CC yet. The cashier called the manager over and she said the policy was changed and I had to use cash only. I said I didn't have it on me and left. I think she misunderstood the policy as it's variable GC's that are cash only. I can't stand misinformed employees.
