Our Verdict

Choice Hotels start at 8,000 points per night, so signing up would be half the amount of points you need for their cheapest property. Points expire on December 31st, two years after the year they were deposited in your account. I imagine if you did this deal now, they wouldn’t be deposited until early next year (might be worth waiting a few extra days to ensure this) which means they wouldn’t expire until the end of 2018.

If you don’t have a choice account already, then this promotion is worth signing up for – you never know what other promotions will come along that will give you enough points for a free night.

  • I can't imagine that it's possible to transfer these points to SW, right? Don't have much use for Choice points, but that'd be an easy way to grab some SW points.

    • Update: Looks like you need a minimum of 6K points to transfer. I went ahead and purchased another 2K for $22 and I'm gonna transfer this to SW in about a week since I'm working on the Companion Pass for '16-'17. SW points are about 1.67 CPP (x2 with the CP), so that'd be a $60 value for $22 plus less time spent on meeting the additional spend. Not bad.

  • Some will turn up their noses at choice hotels in the us..... given the lower end components.

yet there's much "value" to be found here, w/ points. Last week stayed at a very nice Ascend resort property -- a 3 bedroom suite with 2 baths & whirlpool -- sic -- for just 8k choice points plus a whopping $15 in cash per night.

    • Very nice. I actually quite like a lot of the choice properties, always more family style than other chains.
