Our Verdict
Topcashback & SimplyBestCoupons (my referral link) are both offering 1.25% cash back on Visa gift cards purchases, previous deals have tracked correctly even when using a promo code.
Here is what the math on a $500 gift card looks like:
- Purchase $500 gift card with $5.95 fee using $5 off coupon (-$500.95)
- Receive 1.25% cash back (+$6.25)
- Receive any credit card rewards points you’d normally earn
You’re basically getting negative cost gift cards. Two things to keep in mind:
- GiftCardMall has a history of cancelling orders for no real reason
- All of their Visa gift cards are now issued by MetaBank and should come with a PIN (previously they also had cards from Sunrise that didn’t come with PINs).
This is limited to 13,000 cards, so I suspect it will sell out quite quickly.

Expired already. But I was able to place my 5th $500 order last night a little after 12:00am EST on 11/28 morning. My 1st and 4th order are processed and 2nd,3rd,5th order are pending status. Giving Assistant already tracked it and posted the cash back, need to wait two months to get cash back via paypal.
Trying just to buy one $500 visa via GCM on a relatively new Sapphire card (after going through topcashback portal for 1.25% ). (I'd had two such transactions go through via giftcards.com last month -- no problems, and tcb was good.) In this case, gift card mall web site appeared to not be taking transactions most of last night, then was functional again before dawn. BUT, after going through all the steps, transaction(s) reversed within seconds of placing the order.
Calls up Chase sapphire -- and nope, they didn't cause the problem. Appears then I'm hit with the dreaded "GiftCardMall has a history of cancelling orders for no real reason."
Do I have any recourse? What # exactly do I call at GCM? The number I tried is apparently only if you have a card already....
I don't know. Personally, I gave up completely on GCM long ago.
It gets even more bizarre. I tried using their email a question link, then typed in my question, then even though I just took the time to type in a detailed inquiry, I get an error message indicating "message required" (!!!) madness.
My guess is they don't want to honor any more transactions with the $5 off -- so they've just shut down for the day. Not impressed.
Does anyone have any data points on cash advance? I thought I read somewhere about GCM and getting dinged by CA.
GCM sure sucks. Just wasted 15 min. trying to get an order to go through, banging my head on a wall again.
Hello DOC, I confirm that Giving Assistant actually mis-calculated their cash back rate at 2%. It should be just 1.25% for Visa GC. I got their cash back on my order on two months ago via paypal, they even added the fees when calculating the cash back so it is (500+5.95)*2%=$10.12. So this time, I'm going to use GA portal again. I'm paying with Citi Double Cash so it's going to be 4% total for me, free shipping.
My buying experience:
I have bought 3 Visa GCs + 1 restaurant card since August, each time only one card because I previously read all those massive decline/account closure feedbacks on any posts related to giftcardmall.com here. Also, it appears to me that if I want to pay with another of my credit card, their system just reject that. I have my double cash card saved there, not sure if that's the reason. But anyway they limit me to only use one credit card for payment. And I want to warn others that try NOT to place more than 2 cards (or maybe that depends on value instead of number of VGC). It looks to me that they have pre-set values into their check-out system so if your buying behavior looks like MS, they can cancel your order and/or your account. Think about this, it does not make too much sense for one to buy 4 cards at $500 each at a time, if for personal use, so their system will flag such transaction. I really want to know if reader "S" from above can have the orders processed without any problem. I myself prefer to play it safe.
And also regarding using it on plastiq, I previously used one VGC but got declined. That was after they announced that they had problem on VISA. I did leave a feedback saying that VGC prepaid card might not work with plastiq any more. Not sure if that has been fixed already.
Confirmed Yazing & GiveAssistant both give 2% on total price paid on visa physical gift card sold on GiftCardMall
Good to know, surprised this didn't sell out yet.
GiftCardMall is featuring 2% back on TopCashBack but it doesn't say whether VCG's count for this 2% - any data?
Yeah Top Cash Back just tracked for me and I got 2% instead of 1.25% and it actually showed the price before the promo which is 20 dollars more. This means I got 40 dollars off, I used my Citi DC, so I got 4% off on this in total. I really only paid $1999.8 which made the order under 2k so I got free shipping.
When everything clears I made 80 bucks, thanks William, Travel With Grant, GCM, TCB, Mom, Dad, God :)
Nicely done.
Already dead, code does not work
works for me
I can't find a place to enter the promo code. Is it dead?
Never mind. I found it.
