[Update] Some American Express Platinum Approvals Showing Terms with $550 Annual Fee

(Update 7/28/21: Multiple readers reporting (1, 2) that the annual fee actually posted as $550, as per the physical terms.)

Multiple readers report (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) applying for the American Express Platinum card after the fee changed to $695 and still getting the $550 annual fee showing in the terms on the physical mailer that came along with the card. This is being reported on all the various offers – the Resy offer, the 100k offer, the Schwab offer, etc.

It’s not known how this will play out in practice, and also not known if new applications from today will still get the $550 fee – quite possible it was only for those who signed up on launch/change day. Hopefully those people will actually get charged just the $550, as shown in the terms.

Schwab Plat applied for on 7/1 and approved. Terms said $550. Checked with chat then and they said it should be $695. AF charged 7/24 $550.

I was just approved for the resy offer today and all the terms say $695 but I’ll see what the one that comes with the card says.

I got an interesting case. I just downloaded my card member agreement from Amex website for the vanilla Platinum I applied for on 07/16, it says “ $0 for the first year, then $695”.

Does this mean I will not be charged an annual fee?

Pray for the threat of a class action. Worked for the Aspire misprints.

Opened Schwab Plat 7/8
Mailer stated old AF BUT just charged $695 AF on 7/25
Is this worth trying to get them to change it or would I be wasting my time? Pretty sure they’ll just say the documents were old.

Applied Charles Schwas Platinum on 7/5 and received the mailer on 7/7.
The paper print in the mailer shows $695.

Applied on 7/1 with the Resy offer and the term sheet says $550. I confirmed the offer and fee with the chat reps who said ‘the system shows’ a $695 fee and 125k+10x SUB, which is wrong. It should be 15x. Anyone else having this issue?

I signed up as well with the Resy offer on 7/1, and my statement closed earlier this week. Not sure what the “system” shows for me, but I did receive 15x points on my restaurant spend.

Approved 7/12 on the Resy offer for $695, $6K, 6mo. The restaurant part for 15X working like clockwork. Now waiting a charge Monday for 15X small business (listed business on the Amex small business site) to see how it will post. It better be 15X or Amex and I will have a strong conversation. The 15X is the only reason I took out the card now. Planned for later, but not now with 2P having one. So I’m going for the 500K some how, some way.

For current holders, when does the fee increase to $695? On the next card member anniversary? Might be a silly question, but are we “grandfathered” in at $550 if we’ve had the card for years?

Won’t be grandfathered, assume next anniversary but haven’t seen anything official yet

I believe I saw elsewhere that the new fee will be charged on your next anniversary after 1/1/2022, meaning if you reup in 2021 your next fee will still be $550.
