The Fine Print
- Offer valid for automotive fuel purchases made via the Speedpass+ mobile app only.
- Excludes all other transactions including gift cards, purchases made via Speedpass, transactions made at international locations, car wash, garage, mechanic services, purchases made in-store, online, or transactions made outside of the Speedpass+ app such as contactless or swipe transactions made through pump based payment terminals.
- Offer is non-transferable. Limit of 2 statement credit(s) per Card Member.
- Statement credit will appear on your billing statement within 90 days after 12/26/2018, provided that American Express receives information from the merchant about your qualifying purchase.
Our Verdict
Can only be used for gas, but a 50% discount if you spend exactly $20 is still nice. Much better than the Chevron/Texaco 10% offer at least. Get another 3% back by using Dosh as well. It should also be able to stack with the other amex offer where you get $5 when you spend $35+. Make sure to add it to the card with that offer if possible.

Confirmed that this stacks with the 10% off amex offer, so 60% off if you spend exactly $20.
Plus Speedpass app gives 5 cents worth of Exxon rewards points per gallon, so another 2% off assuming $2.50/gal.
No confirmation email from Amex this time, but promotion did post in four days.

Confirm credit stacks with 10% AO. made $20 purchase on 10/26 and seeing two credits ($2 and $10)
So I have this on the card I have 10% back. I have always gotten 10% back by paying at the pump but the terms clearly state that speed pass should work for 10% as well. So technically this should stack.
I used SpeedPass for the 1st time this weekend. Pending transaction shows it as Category Outside – so basically as paid at pump (same as when I actually pay at pump without using Speedpass). I totally expect it to post 10% back but I doubt it will post $10 back for speedpass offer. Also, I did not get AmEx email after I did the transaction.
I will update here once it all clears.
Usually I get the Amex email right away after the transaction, but I had the $10 offer, added Amex to Speedpass and purchased gas from Exxon on Saturday. Still no email or $10 credit has posted to my account.
Well little too early for credit to post even if things worked smoothly.
Used it Sunday (today is Monday) – very cool and I am impressed at the technology. HOWEVER, no amex email and no $10 credit yet. Shows as pending charge.
Pending charge shows “EXXONMOBIL CAT OUTSIDE” — fully posted charge changes to Doing Business As “EXXONMOBIL SPEEDPASS O/S” which will trigger the credit a few days later
The category does change to speedpass once it posts. I haven’t received the credit yet but expect it to post.
Ah Thanks, i was concerned cuz i didnt get the congrats email and thought maybe its posting as a regular exxon charge
Does the app require an online connection, or can a code be scanned that charges the card?
You need cellular data. You have to enter the pump number when you’re at the station or scan the QR code on the pump in order to authorize the pump.
