F.A.Q’s
How can I make myself eligible for this deal?
If you don’t have a registered Membership Rewards card, add the card and register that for shop with points. In the past, the way it’s worked is that you have to wait 24 hours from registering the card until the activation link will show up.
Also, if the link doesn’t work, try the promo code: AMEXTURKEY5 and see if that works at checkout. Again, this offer may be targeted and may not work for everyone.
Do you need prime for this deal?
Can the deal be used more than once?
Yes, a reader reports being able to use it more than once; you’re just limited by the $100 total discount.
Can I use a gift card to pay with Shop-with-Points purchase?
Yes, we describe a few methods to accomplish this in this dedicated post.
Mine only says maximum discount of $50.
So I’ve took advantage of this deal hitting it multiple times from
black friday to the following week. I’ve made around 5 purchases
almost maxing out the $100 and noticed that when I checked out, Amazon
kept asking me to apply for prime multiple times. They were very
slick where in one prompt, the decline was on the left side of the
popup screen, when you click decline, another almost similar popup
comes up where the decline is on the other side. Fast forward to
the first week of December, I received a letter from chase saying
my application for my Chase Amazon visa signature was not approved.
Note: I did NOT apply for the Chase Amazon Visa and even thou I can
not prove it, I know Amazon somehow got me to one click their cc
application (I know they have the ability to do this w/o the user
actually applying for the card, somewhat like their one click prime
subscription). The chase letter was dated the same week where I
made the amex purchases. What shady practice is this. The amazon
application pulled the Experian report, so I advise ppl to check
their reports.
Nooooooooooo!!!!!! Just when I was ready to order 🙁
I didn’t think Amazon would pull the offer before the stated 12/23 date. Is this common for Amazon to pull an offer prior to stated expiration date?
It’s not really Amazon, it would be American Express and they likely hit the redemption limit.
It’s not just a redemption limit issue–they’ve completely stopped paying the credit even for people who had already claimed it. I’ve had the promo attached to my account for two weeks now, and have only used about $75 of the $100 credit. As of today (well, I guess yesterday) I’m not getting any credit when applying 1 cent in points, so they must have hit the max $ amount they were willing to pay out. Bummer! It was my experience with the July version of this promo not ending early that kept me from feeling like I had to max it out right away. I’d just been using it on deals I wanted as they became available.
Oh well!
Yeah, this definitely sucks. I didn’t expect that to pull it for the people that already signed up. Maybe to new signup, but not existing ones. I had a bunch of stuff in my cart that I was letting sit there for a bit waiting to see if the price dropped. Checking out camel^3 showed the items were a bit overpriced and fluctuated often….but they weren’t 20% overpriced, so I should’ve just bought them before.
AMEXTURKEY5 is expired. Is it bad that now everything on Amazon feels 20% overpriced?
Expired; “The promotional code you entered has expired.” when entered AMEXTURKEY5
DEAD. The the direct link to the promo now says “Thank you for your interest in this promotion. Unfortunately, this offer has now ended.”
Wow! I got in just under the bell.
I used this promo earlier this year. I tried it a few times during November to see if I was eligible, but it was always no go. Today, I tried again with success. So, it does pay to wait and try again!
After a ton of experimenting, it looks like e-gift cards no longer work with this promo but physical GC are still working. Makes it a bit harder to turn around and resell.
Just bought a Whole Foods e-gift card and the discount applied as expected.
Same here. It was great while it lasted
I was able to get the Amex 20% off to work by logging into Amazon, unenrolling out of the AMEX MR points portal on Amazon, and deleting my credit card. The next day, login to Amazon and add your AMEX card back into Amazon and re-enroll in the AMEX MR point portal. You may have to wait about 5-7 days for it to activate but it should work. It worked for me.
Interesting, thanks for sharing
I did that too. I usually delete all my MR cards right after I exhaust the 20% discount. Worked twice in July and worked twice this time as well
