The Fine Print
- Offer is valid only on the exchange of eligible hotel partner loyalty programs points into Aeroplan Miles made between November 7 and December 12, 2016 (11:59 EDT).
- Bonus Aeroplan Miles will be issued by Aeroplan as follows: when the total Aeroplan Miles earned by exchanging points from any combination of eligible partner programs during the promotion is between 2,500 and 99,999 Aeroplan Miles, the bonus miles deposited will represent 20% of the total miles earned from the exchange; OR when the total Aeroplan Miles earned by exchanging points from any combination of eligible partner programs during the promotion is between 100,000 and 199,999 Aeroplan Miles, the bonus miles deposited will represent 25% of the total miles earned from the exchange; OR when the total Aeroplan Miles earned by exchanging points from any combination of eligible partner programs during the promotion is greater than 200,000 Aeroplan Miles, the bonus miles deposited will represent 30% of the total miles earned from the exchange,
- BONUS MILE CREDITING: Bonus Aeroplan Miles may take up to 4-6 weeks to be credited after the promotional offer end date of December 12, 2016.
Our Verdict
Normally they offer a flat bonus rather than a percentage bonus, for example their previous offer was as follows:
This percentage bonus actually ends up being pretty similar, in the above you’re getting:
- 2,500 to 99,999 (20% bonus if you exchange the lowest increment)
- 100,000 to 149,999 (25% bonus if you exchange the lowest increment)
- 150,000 to 199,999 (26.66% bonus if you exchange the lowest increment)
- 200,000+ (27.5% bonus if you exchange the lowest increment)
So you’re only really better off under the old promotion if you’re transferring/receiving 150,000 Aeroplan miles. In any case SPG is the only real program worth considering transferring from due to the 1:1 transfer rate and the fact you get a bonus 5,000 miles for every 20,000 SPG points you transfer in addition to this 20-30% transfer bonus.
The other option would be to transfer using a Marriott Hotel + Air Package. 7 nights at a category 1-5 property plus 120,000 miles (150,000 miles with this bonus) would cost you 270,000 Marriott points. I don’t really value Aeroplan miles highly at all, so this offer is a pass for me.
