  • Receive a sign up bonus of $500 when you open any checking account with Synovus and complete one of the following requirements:
    • $25,000 in minimum ending deposit balances OR investment accounts1 OR
    • have a total of $5,000 in minimum monthly deposits into a Synovus Free Checking account1,2 within the first 90 days of account opening

The Fine Print

  • This offer is available only to the recipient of the mailer and only one offer is available per address.
  • This offer is good for accounts opened between Sept. 17, 2021 and Dec. 31, 2021.
  • You must fund a Synovus Free Checking account by Dec. 31, 2021, with a minimum of $100 (not including the incentive). Within 90 days of opening and funding your account, you must meet the Plus program requirements that include maintaining $25,000 in minimum ending deposit balances OR investment accounts OR have a total of $5,000 in minimum monthly deposits into a Synovus Free Checking account. Investments include brokerage/advisory accounts with Synovus Securities, Inc. (SSI).
  • Synovus Trust Company, N.A. (STC) accounts are not directly included in relationship balance or monthly deposit calculations. STC customers in a Synovus relationship program will receive program benefits equivalent to customers with at least a $500,000 relationship balance.
  • If earned, incentive payout will be posted by one of the following dates: March 31, 2022 or May 31, 2022, depending when the account was opened and the transaction requirements are met, and will be in the form of a credit to the new checking account reflected on your statement as “checking incentive.”
  • Checking account must be in good standing at the time of incentive payout.
  • You are responsible for any tax due on any amount received which is considered interest and will be reported on IRS Form 1099-INT. Offer is non-transferable, may not be combined with other offers and does not apply if you are already an owner of a consumer checking account (primary or secondary) with Synovus Bank. Employees of Synovus or any Synovus affiliate company are not eligible for this promotion.
  • Early account closing fee applies in the amount of $25 if the account is closed within 90 days of opening.
  • Direct deposit, cash or check deposit, ACH, and mobile deposits are all eligible transaction types. Reversed deposits due to unavailable funds, cancellations, or stop payments do not count toward your Monthly Deposit.
  • All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Our Verdict

Better than the recent $200 checking bonus but obviously more difficult to get the bonus. That being said it’s still pretty easy to trigger the bonus with $5,000 in deposits. We will add this to our list of the best bank account bonuses.

  • Fwiw, I started following synovus on IG for a few weeks, got ads, but no promo. I was near a branch today and asked about it and they couldn't offer anything and suggested I message the IG team. They got back to me after I provided an address, which happened to be by a branch and they asked me where I heard about the promotion, and told them I got targeted ads on IG and they said I could apply and they would make a note on my account - but didn't sent me a code, which was strange.

    Anyway, went online and opened the account with no code and at the end while I was reviewing all the e-docs, there was a letter detailing the $600 promotion. So I don't think you actually need a code in order to apply 🤔.

    Also, after getting shot down across the street at Seacoast for 67 chex inquiries over 24 months....synovus clearly doesn't care about Chex! Good luck all!

      • I just did what others said, I liked and followed Synovus.
        and eventually this one pops up.

        Interestingly this ad pops up in the mobile game I play.

        And now that I viewed Facebook on an actual computer.
        Looks like they still want a bonus code.
        So, my mistake for jumping the line.

        I think I'll just go in branch and ask folks what the deal is.
        Not sure how to get a mailer from this establishment.

  • As a follow up of my previous post.

    For those who want to take advantage of the ongoing 600 dollars offer and doesn't have the promo mailer, this is what I did:
    Follow Synovus in various social media platforms
    Liked their posts
    Started an application for a new checking account and left incomplete

    After a couple of months of doing that I got an add in my Facebook feed about the 600 dollars offer, then I went to the branch and show them in my Facebook feed the add, a couple of days later they call me and honored the offer.

        Interesting, you inspired me to call in to customer support. The agent spoke with her leadership who said that, while the $600 promo is indeed targeted, if I can bring a screenshot of an advertisement for the offer there's a "possibility" they might be able honor it in the branch. Definitely YMMV. There are ads popping up for the offer right here on DoC (I'm looking at one on the BMO checking page), so maybe some readers can give this a try.

      • Just moved to FL couple years ago, and there’s a branch nearby. Otherwise, it’s hard to say.

          • It was their actual mailer, direct from Synovus. Not lumped in with other brochures or anything.

  • As a follow up to my comment below and a DP to consider, it seems Chase ext. transfer/ACH (standard, not immediate) does not count towards DD as I was charged $10 monthly fee, so bear that in mind (real DDs only). They did reverse it though after a call to CS, but doubt they'll issue another reversal next month.

  • They must be pretty selective in who they target for mail coupons. Also curious if the bonus code is tied to the address on the coupon, if anyone knows.
