Alaska Air Waiving Cancellation & Change Fees (Update: Fee Waivers Added For Tickets Purchase Before February 26th)

Update 3/9/20: Alaska Airlines has improved it’s cancellation and change fee policy, if you purchased tickets before February 26th, 2020 then you can change without fee or cancel your trip and get funds deposited into your account wallet. Travel dates are March 9, 2020 – March 31, 2020.

Original post: With everyone worried about the coronavirus, Alaska Air announced they are waiving cancellation fees and change fees for travel booked between February 27th and March 12th. They join JetBlue who make the same offer.

  1. The waiver applies to tickets purchased between February 27 and March 12, 2020 for travel through June 1, 2020.
  2. Make a one-time change or cancel your ticket and deposit the funds into My Wallet with no change/redeposit fee.
  3. A fare difference may apply to your new itinerary.
  4. New travel must be completed by December 31, 2020.

  • @will Alaska just extended this waiver out through April 30. I canceled my April flight without a fee.

  • hopefully they can match flights booked before feb 26 it to end of april like what several other airlines have done this week.

  • Are there any DP's as to how long it takes to deposit the travel credit funds after cancellation? On the last page it says it'll take 7 days. Does it actually take that long?

  • For the new policy (tickets purchased before 2/26/20), it is only valid for original travel through 3/31/20.

  • You can also negotiate with alaska over waiving cancellation fees for award bookings. I made my bookings last year for flights in April, cancel both legs of the flight without the fees. Keep calling till you get a sympathetic CS rep, and they can ask the supervisor for permission to override/waive the cancellation fee on your award bookings.

  • I have $100 Alaska credit expiring on April. If I book a flight using the credit and cancel will they extend the expiration date to December 2020?

  • The fear and panic surrounding this must be getting to the bottom line. The media and trolls alike have blown this way out of proportion. I’ll continue to travel until they literally cancel my itineraries.
