Alaska Airlines has announced that they will be increasing the fees checked for baggage, these changes are effective for tickets purchased or last exchanged on or after December 5, 2018.

The standard baggage fees are increasing as follows:

  • Second checked bag is going from $25 to $40 ($15 increase)
  • Third checked bag is going from $75 to $100 ($25 increase)

n late August JetBlue announced they would be raising the fees for checked baggage, since then United, Air Canada, American Airlines & Delta have all increased their fees as well. Viva la Southwest! Keep in mind the Bank of America cards come with first checked bag free for you and up to six companions, currently the personal card has a 40,000 mile bonus and the business version has a 32,500 mile bonus.

  • I always fly SW for personal - an exception being Maui that we are flying to. Southwest doesn't yet fly to HI. Either way, I'm taking Alaska there - I won't have any bag fees because
    1) I status matched from my Delta Platinum
    2) Signed up for the card
    3) Got upgraded to first via status match.

Business is a different story, however... I love first class when traveling on 6am flights.

  • Even with an airline card to cover bag fees sometimes Southwest is still cheaper. I had a Delta card and comparing prices to Southwest I still flew SW. I have AA card now and still flying SW.

    • Can’t remember the last time I checked a bag on domestic. Irrelevant to many of us. But important to some, of course.

  • Still loving Southwest!

I’ve tried applying for 2 Bank of America Cards 3 months apart and both were denied when they should’ve been approved.

    Reasons listed:

    Low AAOA (3 Years)
Loans have high balance (They’re student loans in repayment never late in the last 5 years).

FICO Score: 735 on first app and 708 on second app. Recon wouldn’t budge or open it with a low SL.

Chase had no problem throwing me 10k, 5k, and 4k after BofA shot me down. I guess I’m just not who they want as a customer?
