Our Verdict
This used to be called Microsoft Office 365 Home and now is rebranded to Microsoft 365 Family. It offers a 12-month Microsoft Office subscription for $58.99 which is a discounted price, and with this deal you get a bonus $15 Amazon physical gift card thrown in free. We’ve seen similar deals in the past.
In the past, readers have said it’s possible to use this to add to an existing subscription. (Apparently, up to 4 years of extension can be done. Beyond that, you can save the code and use it a later date, I suppose.) Note, some people might prefer buying the download version instead of the subscription version. Do some research to decide which model and version is best for you.
Also note, this purchase through Amazon sets up an Amazon auto renewal of the Microsoft 365 product. It also converts your Microsoft account billing to be managed through Amazon’s subscription page. You need to go in and make sure to turn off the auto renew feature on the Amazon subscription page.

I found this late and now it is $74. Curious if it is still worth it?
Also, the top description says $15 included, but the narrative below says: "WHAT'S INCLUDED: Microsoft 365 Family 12 month subscription with auto-renewal for digital download and $50 Amazon Gift Card delivered by mail "
Which one is it?
FWIW, it's for 1 person on up to 5 devices at the same time.
jeff, yes, after you purchase it, it will have you log into your existing account, and then it will extend your subscription by one year.
Did not work for me. When I activated the subscription by logging into my existing MS account, it reset my 365 subscription as if it was starting today, even though I had already paid through 7/20 of next year. I'm going to have to contact support. What a mess.
Fixed with a 40-minute phone call to Amazon support. Ugh.
Thank you.
jeff, I have an existing subscription that I pay monthly. I purchased this offer and it added one year to my subscription.
Yeah, my question is "how?" Am I going to be asked to log into my existing account during the ordering process?
How do I take advantage of this if I have an existing subscription directly with Microsoft? I'm fine with adding this onto the end of my current year.
can I purchase this more than once and add multiple years?
What do I use this for? I already have a free gmail account.
1 TB cloud storage on OneDrive and all the MS office apps/programs.
In the product detail it actually says $50 gift card. Not sure if this is a typo:
- WHAT'S INCLUDED: Microsoft 365 Family 12 month subscription with auto-renewal for digital download and $50
Amazon Gift Card delivered by mail
- Gift Card is affixed inside a mini envelope. Gift Card has no fees and no expiration date
- The Gift Card you receive may not have the denomination displayed on the actual gift card. To check the purchased
value, simply match the last 4 digits of the serial number on the back of the gift card to those listed in order details
using the Amazon App or visit amazon com/yourorders
- Gift Card is affixed inside a mini envelope. Gift Card has no fees and no expiration date
Seems to me as a complete mismatch between the title and the description. Both version and GC amount does not match.
I guess there might be a promo for Microsoft 365 Family with a $50 gift card soon? If that will be for $99, it would be much nicer offer than this one.
Newegg usually has M365 family 12 month for $60 and 15 month for $70, so that wouldn't be totally out of the question if it is an Amazon-specific deal

You guys posted the wrong promo. This is for a personal edition. I didn't read it properly and wasted money on the wrong subscription.
Sorry! The description calls it 'Family', and I wasn't aware Family usually meant multiple users. Someone else here says you can add 9 months to a Family subscription with a Personal purchase.
Is it challenging to switch from a subscription managed by Amazon to a standard subsription (managed by Microsoft) after the first year?
You may be able to do it after the first year, but definitely not before then (unless you involve a different Microsoft account to facilitate the change sooner).
A few blogs and forums say you only need to cancel auto renewal in order to revert to a Microsoft managed subscription, but in my experience with a similar situation (subscription managed by Best Buy), that wasn’t enough. I still couldn’t change back to a Microsoft-managed subscription as long as the Best Buy subscription was active. That also meant that I couldn’t add a license code for Microsoft 365 purchased from any other sources (such as from these periodic Amazon deals).
I could only assume that the subscription would be Microsoft managed after the Best Buy managed subscription expired. I didn’t wait to find out, though; when I had a day left, I had a family member set up a new subscription on their account and share it with me (we had been doing it the other way around for a few years).
I am in same boat with BB purchase. Turned off auto renew and few months left now question is , is this or any other deal worth the hassle of chasing rather than buying directly from MS?
I'm inclined to steer away from deals where the seller's digital store takes over the subscription management, but I might still consider it if the deal is very good. At least now I know what I'd be getting into.
In the past, I used to get a license code from Amazon and just enter it in my Microsoft account (new or existing subscription) to create/extend the subscription. I wonder if that is still possible with any sellers/sources.
