  • Amazon is offering 30%/40%/50% off, up to $30/$60/$80 discount, when you use at least 1 Membership Rewards points at checkout.

There are other offer version as well. Some of the versions mention using 714 or 1,428 points used; some people find the system lets them use it with using just 1 point.

Our Verdict

Similar to previous offers. If you’re not targeted then follow these instructions, although that hasn’t been working as well as it once did. We’ve added this to our Complete Guide to Saving Money on Amazon.

You can typically use these promotions in a single transaction or across multiple smaller transactions. This deal works on third party gift cards, but not Amazon gift cards. Samples gift cards available on Amazon:

  • Enrolled 4 accounts with the same card into shop with points 2 days ago. Today, all 4 accounts have 50% off up to $80.

  • These "points deals" at Amazon seem to roll into each other -- sometimes you're targeted, most times you're not, and sometimes the offer is a new one, but it's usually the same one you used a few months ago. The only solution I've come up with to is, every month, search the blogs and click on all the current offer links for all the credit card points programs and see if I magically have a nice Amazon discount.

  • This worked for me. Used $0.01 at checkout (1 point) and it applied the full discount, paid for the rest with the amex card. Thanks for the heads up on this!

  • Miraculously was targeted for this (and showed the promo code was applied in green)

    put a $160 item in cart and did show that it was $80 off when paying with Amex MR points

    but here's the kicker. paying with Amex MR points is super inflated when it comes to Amazon.

    so something that is worth $160 is going to cost 12,500 Amex MR after the 50% off deduction.

    so truly, you are saving $35 at best on a $160 purchase. Which is still not too shabby at all and still above the 1:1 point transfer ratio.

        actually, you are correct!

        I have used 1 point(143 MR points) in the section where it shows points applied and the full $80 discount still did get applied to my account.

        So i was assuming that the whole purchase had to go on the points, but it doesn't appear to be the case!

        So pretty much the best strategy would be to only use $1 worth of points from your Amex and pay the remainder balance with a credit card
