Amazon Launches Online Pharmacy With 2-Day Shipping For Prime Members [6 Months From $1 Per Month)

Update 6/8/21: Amazon is offering meds from as low as $1 per month for the first six months. For Prime subscribers only.

Original post: Amazon launched today an online pharmacy which will service those with and without insurance, with or without Prime membership. Prime members get the added advantage of free 2-day shipping. Also, Prime members who don’t have health insurance will see savings of up to ‘up to 80%’ on generic brands and ‘up to 40%’ on name brand medications.

Lots of pharmacies deliver and local pharmacies usually can deliver the same day, so I don’t see a big edge to Amazon here. But I can see people who like tech platforms using this going forward.

Will be interesting to see if Amazon Pharmacy purchases will code as Drugstores on the Freedom Flex card. Also not clear if Amazon cardholders get 5% on Amazon Pharmacy purchases (I assume they do?).

  • Can’t even look at the service without Amazon asking a bunch of invasive questions. Doesn’t Amazon have enough information on me. I’m sure they already have all this information from data collection. What’s the point of asking again

  • 2 day shipping? Is that like the Amazon Prime guaranteed 2 day shipping that takes a week now?

    • Are you sure that was for one month? A couple I checked defaulted to 6 months and that gave the best price. You've got to have a dr that will write a 6 month prescription, though.

  • Controlled substances are 80% of all pharmacy business, so retail will be just fine.

  • Pfft.. What's next?

    Amazon auto repair
    Amazon babysitting
    Amazon lawn mowing
    Amazon feed your pets
    Amazon take out the trash
    Amazon wipe your ass?

      • Amazon Escorts, available in UK, Mexico, Canada. If you're a Prime member you can get 2 hour guaranteed delivery, and use your Amazon card to get 5% back along with limited time special offers. Coming to US soon (TM).

        • Damn, I would totally do Amazon Escorts, and you can filter for only 5-stars. 2 hour guaranteed delivery, and 5% cash back when I use my Prime Card to book a service date? Sign me the fuck up.

  • I always say check your local clinic pharmacy.
I looked at couple of meds I had when good RX came, the price was double the retail price for the local pharmacy compared to what I'd pay using good RX at those places that accept it.
One med I looked at was $7.14 retail and is 16.80 with Amazon.
I have good insurance, so I don't have to worry about that.
But if you are uninsured or underinsured, look at your local clinic pharmacies.
I hear Costco also has good prices, but never verified it. No membership needed.
Mind that most places offer free delivery too, so nothing novel from Amazon.

    • Costco is great if you're looking to stock up on a year at a time. Pre-COVID I'd only be stateside once a year and I've had a couple of issues with sketchy meds elsewhere. Safeway blanched at the idea but Costco just rung it up and didn't bat an eye.

  • I had a purchase in October, paid with a Chase Amazon card. Posted as "AMZNPHARMA", Merchant type: Drug stores and pharmacies, 2% Back at drugstores.
