Amazon has officially announced that prime day will be on July 16th and will start at 3PM ET (our affiliate link here and below). The day will run through July 17th and actually last a total of 36 hours.
As part of announcing the day officially they are also discounting some items already (e.g $100 off Echo Show, 30% off other brands). Some other things of interest:

- Amazon will be offering prime day deals for some Amazon Pay merchants
- Amazon is offering a free game every day through Twitch Prime. First days game is Pillars of Eternity.
- You can get a $10 Amazon coupon for your first sign in to the Amazon app
- 3 months of Kindle Unlimited for $0.99
- Save up to $20 on Whole Foods or Amazon Prime Now Online Order
- Echo Show for $129.99 (usually $229.99)
I’m sure we will see a lot more deals in the lead up to Prime day. I’ve found the lead up deals to usually be better than the deals on the day itself, although that’s because they are things like the free $10 Amazon coupon mentioned above. We’ve already seen some things similar to that such as:

Prime day is also targeted towards members with a Prime subscription. So it might make sense to get one if you don’t have one already:
- If you aren’t a Prime members, you can signup for 30-day free Prime trial if you’ve never done that before.
- You can also pay for one month of Prime on the $12.99 monthly Prime plan.
- The annual cost of Prime is now $119/yr.
- EBT or Medicaid users can signup for a cheaper $5.99 monthly plan.
- Don’t forget some portals also offer cash back/points for signing up for prime (e.g Topcashback currently offers $10)

Amazon "gets rid of their trash" day.
Basically a day of advertising for crap that no one really needs/wants, at a gimmick price to be perceived as a "good deal". Evil - for sure - but genius as well. I learned my lesson the first time that prime day is a complete waste of time.
The 10% back at whole foods, does it include/exclude gift cards?
Gift cards are specifically excluded in the email I got about the 10% Whole Foods deal.
