Our Verdict

I assume this account can be open nationwide, but don’t know that for sure. Bit annoying to need the $10,000 in there for two months but worth doing for a $300 bonus. We also don’t have any datapoints on what counts for direct deposit. We will add this to our list of the best bank account bonuses.

CSR confirmed that 0 balances are closed automatically in one month
    Kept open 6 months
04/14/22: called to closed. CSR said bank will keep the 0.49 remaining.

Overall, a pain to deal with, but worth it for $300.

  • I got the bonus on 01/05, withdrew all money. I planned to close the account after the 6-month mark but just found it was automatically closed at some point. I can still log in with my credentials but it's empty.
Well I guess that works too.

    • I hope so. Amerant couldn't get SMS 2FA correctly (aka phone number needed 1 in front otherwise it won't work), and I never did that and now I can't even login since it'll only asked for my phone and not my email. It used to use my email for code.

      • Further update. I was able to contact Amerant via email from an old email contact that I asked them before. They were able to fixed the SMS issue, and I was able to login. email contact was OnlineAccount@amerantbank.com

I'd empty out my account back in Jan 15th, and I guess 2 months later, they auto-close it and now i got no account. My 6 month was in april 9th anyway.

        Online portal still accessible.

  • I'm getting pushback from Amerant on the bonus, even though I maintained over 10k in 2nd & and 3rd statement cycles. Would appreciate if someone can post the full promo screenshot, that includes this language " Maintain an average balance of $10,000 on your 2nd and 3rd statement cycle and have your account open for 90 days."

    • Crap. No bonus yet. Going by everyone else's DPs, I figured mine would post Wednesday night.

How long should I give them before I reach out? Here's my DP:
      11/4 - Account opened
11/15 - End of first statement
      11/19 - $10k posts
11/26 - First legit $50 direct deposit posts (DD biweekly)
12/15 - End of second statement

Still have 10k in account. DDs continue.

      • Hope this helps:

        9/28 - Opened in branch
10/17 - End of first statement
        10/21 – $10k posts
        10/26 – 4 debits
11/15 – End of second statement
12/15 – End of third statement
        12/29 - Bonus posted

I did one legit DD each month.

        • Thank you. I just checked this morning and it posted! Guess they decided to not follow the Wednesday payout as they have been doing.

  • They pulled my chex report 3 times...
    I opened on 11/4/21 and they pulled on 11/4, 12/3, and 12/14!

    Check your reports

  • Anyone get a 1099 from this? My bonus posted 12/29/2021 but I've gotten nothing in the mail and nothing in the "tax document" section in online banking.

  • 10/11: Account Opened
    10/17: 1st monthly statement (avg balance: $333)
    10/22: Employer DD
    10/25: $10,000 Deposited
    11/9: Employer DD
    11/15: 2nd monthly statement (avg balance: $9630)
    11/24: Employer DD
    12/6: Employer DD
    12/15: 3rd monthly statement (avg balance: $11,200)
    1/12: $300 Bonus

I guess this confirms that you do not actually need 2 consecutive statements with >$10k average balance.
