American Airlines Changing Business Program

American Airlines has announced that the business extra program will be discontinued and replaced with the AAdvantage Business program. The new program is simple, you earn 1 AAdvantage mile per $1 spent and 1 loyalty point per dollar spent. In order to redeem the miles and stay a member you must:

  • Must have at least five unique travelers on account & maintain $5,000 in qualifying Business Extra flight activity during the previous 12-month period to redeem points
  • Be a Citi AA business cardholder

The transition between the two programs will be as follows:

  • On December 14, 2023 the Business Extra program will be discontinued
  • Points must be redeemed by January 31, 2024.
  • You can transfer points across at a rate of 1:6

New program isn’t as good as the old one, but with the requirements to stay a member and redeem the miles it’s much harder/impossible to game than it was before so most readers won’t be eligible anyway.

  • @2 1000 AA miles / Loyalty for a survey on the business program. Check email - Might be targeted. I am a Citi AA business card holder

Thank you for being a valued member of the AAdvantage Business™ program.

    • @2 Took me about 10 min for completing the survey - Choose to get the AA miles, it said it would be credited to my account in 6-8 weeks

  • Warning: If you signup for any of the Citi AA Biz cards, your miles no longer post to your personal account. Many of us are waiting on our SUB as well.

    • I just realized that until I found they set up a business account for me and post my miles over there

      • How did you get your password? I'm trying to gain access to the account they set up but resetting using my first and last name isn't working!

  • Unfortunately, this is one of the most useless rewards programs out there, in my personal opinion / experience. I have spent thousands of dollars and used my business number (for several years) and still have not accrued enough miles / credit for a single one-way flight.

  • Holding the Citi business card waives the 5 travelers/$5,000 requirement.

Points can’t be transferred to the new program, they just get turned into personal AAdvantage miles if you actively redeem for that. If you don’t they are forfeited on 2/1

    • There are scores of mom/pop/single operators that don't have 5 traveling employees. Is Citi a special kind of stupid or are they just gunning to larger businesses?

  • does this mean i can fly on american airlines with AA again or am i still banned from earning / using miles. asking for a friend or two
