The American Express Ameriprise Platinum card is currently no longer accepting new applicants. This card used to be extremely popular as the annual fee was waived in the first year, meaning you could get the benefits of holding a Platinum card without paying an annual fee. In February the offer changed from no annual fee first year to $550 annual fee with a 60,000 point bonus. At the same time the Gold card from Ameriprise was discontinued. It’s currently unclear if the card has been discontinued or it’s just not accepting new applicants currently. There are multiple ‘flavors’ of the Platinum card available.

Platinum card is most popular with people who apply with FICO scores of 680-700. That's almost entirely who has been approved for new Platinums in the past 2 years.
At $550AF, it's effectively a prepaid debit card for people re/building credit. AmEx will never publicly admit this, but industry sources know the truth.
Spin it as premium all you want, and certainly some aged folks still think it is, but it's very much appealing to the "I have subpar credit and want to get IN with Amex" crowd.
Yup, wife got the Gold with a 670ish score and has been bombarded with Platinum offers since. I've been bouncing between 750 and 800, and only get targeted offers for (the lowest-earning of) their credit cards.

Looks like those cards are issued by Elan Bank, which is a subsidiary of US Bank.
