Early Account Termination Fee

Our Verdict

There is a similar account/bonus called Kabbage by AmEx. That bonus is actually easier to complete so I’d recommend doing that one first (although this account is better as it has the higher $500,000 1.1% cap). The real question is if you can do both accounts/bonuses. The terms on this one state:

  • $300 Account Opening Deposit is not available to existing Business Checking Account customers

This does have a different routing number, the maximum account balance is also $500,000 for this account and $100,000 for the Kabbage and the account is called something else as well. The terms of the bonus are also different so it’s not unreasonable to assume this is a new account and you can do both. In practice that’s probably unlikely given this is American Express. Up to you if you want to take that risk if you’ve already done that Kabbage bonus.

  • Does not integrate with Quickbooks =/
I also couldn't get the $300 bonus. I deposited 10 checks, which took a very long time to clear, like 7-10 days for all. I also asked for a transfer from my other checking account but they pulled from the savings instead (both have the same account number at the other institution), resulting in a bank fee for me. Re-linked accounts and tried again, presuming I made an error but the same thing happened. Called and they said they would look into it but I never heard back. I finally deposited the money another way but by then it was too late to have a $5k average for their specific time period. Called and explained their system failed and there was no no leniency. I'll take my business elsewhere.

  • Success!
    May 2: Account opened.
May 3-15: $5k deposit added. 10+ transactions, mostly sub-$1 test deposits from other banks. Tracker announces completion for both.
July 2: Tracker shows complete for 60 day average balance > $5k
July 21: Payout! "Customer Incentive Payment"

    Thanks, Doc!

  • Most people will find the $300 to have been more valuable. That being said, I was not able to take advantage of the $300 offer because they wanted a selfie that I couldn’t get to work out, or call during hours that I am not available for verification questions. I noticed the offer changed so I decided to try applying again.

I was instantly approved this time applying as a sole prop with $10k income. Offer is still worth doing even at the reduced rate. My bank account is linked and my $5k transfer is already pending. Love the tracker feature. In light of this I will tell my P2 to try applying again since she was rejected for this account when the offer was $300.

  • My completion tracker showed 3/3 for 2 weeks and now it disappeared with now no bonus posted. Was this normal for anyone else who got the bonus?

  • I applied for the 300$ last week, and my girlfriend tried to apply today but she got 20000 MR points instead!!! I’m kinda jealous.

    • Why would you be jealous? Those MR points are only worth $160 when redeemed via Amex BC. Their promotional bonus has thus been reduced; in essence it's 1/2 of what you qualified for last week.

  • It's been over 12 weeks and I still did not get paid so I called to escalate or create a ticket for my incident and that's been over 2 weeks now. Anybody in the same situation?
