American Express Business Dell Possible Extension & Dell Rewards Changes

The American Express Business Platinum card offers up to $400 in Dell credits back (up to $200 semi annually). Two pieces of news:

Dell Rewards members are now able to spend rewards in any amount. You no longer have to spend rewards in $10 (1,000 point) increments! To redeem your rewards, log in to your Dell My Account and click the “apply rewards” button at checkout.

A frequent miler reader saw language that this benefit has been extended to 6/30/25 and another reader was told that by a customer service representative.

  • Hmm, my Business Platinum renews mid-Jan. I was hoping to hear the details of the refresh by now and am wondering if the reason the credit is being expended is due to a refresh delay. I was planning on cancelling the card should it not be refreshed by the time of my renewal as I feel I have exhausted potential dell.com purchases. If it is refreshed by EOY but this credit is just extended another term, thats a potential upside.
I'm curious what AMEX plans to replace the dell credit with. Hopefully its not ANOTHER Resy credit 👀

  • I am fairly sure by Christmas you can dfind something on Dell that can work out. Nothing else can be done. If you dont get more than the 695 you pay for the card out of it then at time of renewal, cancel and tell them the reasons. At the least you will get some sort of retention offer. Some of those other perks like Indeed.com I dont need at all> Same for Adobe. If they ever had a few flex rewards that would be ideal. For example on the $200 if you had 3 different choices. Eventually these Plat cards go to 995. I am fairly sure.

  • Main body of the post is completely irrelevant to the topic... just copy and pasted from something?

  • now that Dell doesn't sell many third party products I have ZERO reason for keeping biz plat cards long-term. Not that I had a lot of needs from Dell anyhow, but now it's almost impossible to get value.

    • I would dump every card that doesnt bring you value. Value beyond the cost of the card. If the card is $300 and they give you $300 in credits it has to have additional value. If not you move on.

    • Buy 3rd party things like Bose, Garmin and more. But probably wait until they are on sale. Dell refuses to price match when Dell.com has limited stock. And they marked a lot of their 3rd party things limited stock...

  • Just realized this is a bit of a deval at the same time. Under the old scheme you could redeem Dell Rewards to Dell Dollars and effectively extend the expiration another 4 months, giving you 8 total months. Now you're stuck with the 4 month expiration timer.

    Edit: possible workaround - https://www.dell.com/community/en/conversations/customer-care/cannot-redeem-dell-reward-points-or-covert-them-to-dell-dollars/67022cec9ebcc757d8192023?commentId=670849539a71b66e97dc674f

  • I thought you just make a purchase at Dell.com using Amex platinum card and you get refund up to $200 back?

    • Yes, that's how it works. You just buy anything on Dell's website, pay with your Business Plat card, and Amex will credit back up to $200 per half of the year. The first change is about Dell Rewards, which is separate from the Amex credit.

The second piece of news is that the Amex credit seems to be extended to 6/30/25. They previously had language that indicated the credit may be eliminated after 2024, so if Amex and Dell have extended the partnership for at least the first half of 2025 that's news
