American Express Business Platinum To Lose Four Benefits Starting In 2020 (Gogo, Boingo, WeWork & Premium Roadside Assistance)

The American Express Business Platinum will be losing four benefits starting in 2020. These benefits are:

  • Gogo inflight passes (current passes expire on 12/31/19 and no new passes will be issued for the 2020 year)
  • Boingo (members will stop working on 01/01/20. This was previously announced in March)
  • WeWork (enrollment will be available until 12/31/19 and after enrollment you get 12 months of access but it will no longer be possible to enroll starting January 1st, 2020).
  • Premium roadside assistance (will no longer be available starting 01/01/20)

  • I just wonder if the lose of benefits is related to the rumor they'll be another card between Platinum and the Centurion card. Wouldn't be surprised if Amex brings in a new card with a higher fee and the benefits they're taking away from Platinum?

    • Some of these benefits were available even on cards with AF half that of Platinum. It's improbable that they'd be reserved for the new card, IMHO.

  • American Express, what used to be premium company, all downhill from here! Increased fees, lower benefits, clawbacks for no reason. It's almost like they don't actually want to have any customers!

  • Why not file a complaint with Amex Platinum . I think if everyone complains they will take note. They lost Costco and if they keep cutting benfitst in AMEx plat and not reduce the fees or replace with something better . they will lose more..

  • I doubt it was very popular but the Premium Roadside Assistance was what has tipped me in favor of keeping so-called premium Amex cards. It looks like the personal Platinum and Gold cards are losing this benefit too. My AF is due in December, so the timing worked out to cancel. Such a shame, I used to be such a fan of Amex and now I'm getting ready to cancel my last Amex card.

Does anyone know if there are any other cards that offer a comparable roadside assistance benefit?

  • ...because, ya, lots of businesses have prospered by removing benefits and clawing back rewards. *rolls eyes

  • American Express called me yesterday in an attempt to sell the benefits of upgrading from the BGR to the Business Platinum card.

No bonus was mentioned, with the main point being the 35% rebate on points used to pay for airfare. When I mentioned how badly customer service had degraded over the last year with regard to dispute handling, the effective reduction in value I've already experienced with the Personal Platinum and the fact that I transfer my points for Business Class redemptions, I was told I could call back if I changed my mind.

One would almost think that Amex were trying to hook people on a product about to experience about of downgrades if they were sufficiently cynical!

  • Increasing fees and decreasing benefits is possibly the worst customer retention & acquisition strategy there is.

  • Incredibility just logged in using my Gogo passes on a Delta flight to see...I'm losing my gogo passes in 2020.

This is the world we live in (ohhh!)

  • Those GoGo In-flight passes on long-hauls is what I'm going to miss. I don't use the other three at all (though I'll probably sign up for WeWork just because it's complimentary).
