American Express Business Platinum Will Lose 20% “Pay With Points” Rebate

Starting July 1st, 2015 the American Express Business Platinum will no longer offer the 20% Pay With Points rebate. When using the Pay With Points redemption option American Express Membership Rewards points are worth 1¢ each, this benefit increases their value to 1.25¢ per point (rebate on your rebate).

American Express already removed this benefit from the personal Platinum card so it’s not a huge shock that it will also be going away on the business version. Personally I don’t think either of the Platinum cards are worth holding long term, I do think they are worth getting when the sign up bonuses are particularly high. The annual fee of $450 is a real turn off for me, both cards do come with a $200 airline incidental credit (which you can get twice and only pay one annual fee as the benefit is based on calendar years rather than card member).

We’ve recently seen targeted bonuses of 150,000 MR points on the American Express Business Platinum card and people are still reporting success getting the 100,000 MR point offer just by calling in. You can also check for targeted American Express business offers by going here.

Lately American Express seem to be completely overhauling their Platinum products, most of the changes have been negative – but there have been a few positive benefits as well:

P.S, sorry for all the American Express platinum posts recently. I’ll try to cut back!

  • Don't apologize for all the platinum posts. Looking forward to seeing what the rumored enhancements to the platinum cards will be. I guess that will necessitate another post, no? ;~)
