American Express Centurion Lounge DFW Will Be Closed For Repairs From 7/24 Until 8/14

Just a friendly reminder this lounge is now closed. It doesn’t look like American Express is giving anything to cardholders who have been inconvenienced and the ‘The Club at DFW” is basically your only real alternative (Minute Suites aren’t really a lounge). To make matters worse, The Club is a temporary location and from all reports it’s absolutely awful (some pictures here).

According to a sign found by Twitter user @obeanz71 the American Express Centurion lounge at DFW will be closed for three weeks from July 24th until August 14th. It says that updates will be available online or via the AmEx app but currently there is no mention of it in app or on the website. American Express was supposed to open a new bigger centurion lounge at DFW at a new location in the first half of 2018. They have obviously missed that deadline and it will obviously be much longer than originally predicted, otherwise I don’t see why they would close the current lounge for three weeks to make repairs.

It doesn’t look like cardholders will receive any sort of compensation for the inconvenience. Platinum & Centurion cardholders do have access to Priority Pass, so they can access the Minute Suites at Terminal A & D or The Club at DFW at Terminal D (this is also a temporary location). I expect it’s going to be absolute mayhem at the The Club until this reopens. I suspect people that had made layovers based on having access to this lounge won’t be too happy.

As some people note in the comments, it’s possible they plan to open the new lounge on the 14th or thereabouts and need to close the existing lounge before then (e.g to move furniture or just to have staff set up the new lounge). That’s certainly possible, but I think American Express would communicate that better as it’s certainly better to be opening the new lounge than just saying repairs need to be done to existing lounge.

  • New lounge is scheduled to open end of September, but original open date was March, 2018. Lots of delays.

  • " It doesn’t look like American Express is giving anything to cardholders who have been inconvenienced"

Really? Given it's the plat card I bet they'd give $50 if you complained.

    • I more meant there is nobody standing at the closed lounge offering meal vouchers or similar. If anybody calls in to complain let us know.

      • Just called to complain since I actually booked my layover thru DFW and made it extra long because of the lounge. They wouldn't offer me any compensation.

        • Surprised, that's pretty poor not to offer any alternative and then no compoensation.

  • Wife asked at the front desk of the Centurion Lounge in SFO and they didn't believe it was closed; if it was they would have heard about it. Not handling this well...

  • I’ve had to use the temporary PP “The Club” kiosk at DFW in recent months. It fits like 25 people max, and is basically just a tent in the middle of the waiting area with free popcorn and alcohol. Unless you *really* need a drink, then it’s absolutely worthless.

  • Saw this sign on Sunday when visiting... never thought to document as I assumed the blogosphere would have been better informed than I.

Notably, left immediately after confirming the lounge was full with zero available seating, bananas as usual.

  • Dang... had a layover planned early August after longhaul. Oh, well -- this will be a talking point when I call into Amex for Platinum retention that week!

I'll tell you something else bad about this: The Admirals Club in D is also closed.

  • I am one of those people who picked dfw as a layover during these dates for this reason. Definitely not happy. Amex will be compensating me one way or another, I imagine.

    • Let us know what happens. I literally flew in on the 24th and planned my arrival and departure around using the lounge :(

    • Yes, of course you are entitled to compensation. You should sue them or take it to the CFPB. Maybe they will reimburse you for your entire trip.

      • They will? Wow I didn't even think of that, I just wanted a food credit or something. Thanks for the idea.

  • I was just there last week and asked several times to different employees re the opening of the new club and all said the new location is opening very soon - likely early August. This does not make sense to repair a place they will be vacating soon.
Edit — perhaps there is a reason they must vacate the old lounge before opening the new lounge and the new lounge will open on or about August 14th.

    • Yeah, very possible. Added a note about this, but I do think it's unlikely as why wouldn't they just clearly state that if it's the case?

    • Repairs may be one way of saying "we're moving furniture from old lounge to new lounge and finalizing food/whatever inspections." If so, this is good news in a way.

  • Can't say I'm happy since I'm passing through on the 14th. Better be open on my return on 19th...

    • Haha Parrot is gonna be pissed when they have a delayed grand re-opening on August 20th starting at 6 a.m. with prizes and celebrity meet and greet.
