Are You Eligible If You’ve Had Another Flavor Of The Platinum Card?

American Express issue a lot of different versions of the Platinum card (you can view them all here). In the past people have been succesfully in getting the bonus on different versions of the platinum card, but I did see a few recent datapoints (during the last 100,000 point offer) of this not being the case.

Our Verdict

Incredible offer, but obviously with some risk involved. I assume most people won’t be eligible due to the once in a lifetime limitation as well. Read these things you should know about American Express before applying.

  • Just another DP, I received my card in mid-January, points posted around a week ago, went to transfer today and they're frozen.

  • I got my points. How do I test out if they're frozen without actually transferring any of them?

    • Try minimal -- transfer 250 MR to BA. I think you can also test by trying to buy a GC from the MR portal but I'm not sure about that one.

    • The 100K points posted a couple of days ago (they were pending until statement close), and they were immediately frozen.

  • Does anyone have new DPs to share? Got my points and they are frozen.

  • I applied to this link and was auto-approved... Tonight I tried to cash out 55,000 points on a vacation. I accrued these points last AUGUST across a MB Plat, PRG and Green card. After trying to cash out, I received the following message: "This action will not be completed at this time because your account is currently being reviewed to make sure all eligible purchases meet qualifying criteria." After calling in they said that all points are frozen and the review could take 6-8 weeks. I successfully cashed out 88k points in October without any issues. I haven't even received this new Platinum card yet... I'm freaking out.

    • i applied for this card and got auto-approved too. i have signed up for 7 amex cards within the last year to accrue about 300k points and used 100k for a vacation in april and recently used 170k for a vacation next fall. i applied because i'm hoping to use it for another vacation next summer so this is my 8th card within a year so i'm pretty sure my account will be reviewed also. sounds like my chances of actually getting this bonus, even with legitimate spending, is pretty slim.
