American Express Signup Bonuses Posting Slower Than Usual

American Express signup bonuses are posting slower than usual these days, according to our friends over at Travel On Points and MEAB.

While previously points would post within days after completing the spending requirement, it now takes a week or two to show. The points show up backdated to the date of the spend completion, so you won’t notice this unless you’re keeping tabs on this.

(The reports we’ve seen are regarding Membership Rewards points signup bonuses. I’m unsure if there has been a change for cash signup bonuses and cobranded mileage signup bonus  points.)

  • Another Saks Credit in limbo land... purchased 7/13 and it still hasn't posted. My AF is likely coming at the end of this month. Canceling will negate the credit as the card has to be opened. Does anyone know if downgrade to Gold and wait out the $50 credit will work??

I'll also note that the June credit posted in 7 days. Starting to think the delays are on purpose if too close to AF renewal.

    • Update to OP. Saks' credit hit yesterday 8/22. So mine took nearly 6 weeks to post. AF has still not yet posted strangely.

    • Very similar situation here.
Saks purchase on 5/22/23 credit posted on 6/2/23
Saks purchase 7/3/23 no credit as of 8/10/23

  • DP to the contrary, P2's Hilton business SUB posted a few days ago while the spend was still some $200 short

  • I am also waiting on Saks credit to post. Usually it is done within days but it has been over 3 weeks. My brother in law opened an Amex Everyday card May 12 and met the spending requirement for the bonus the first month He is still waiting for it to post. Officially they state it can take 12 weeks to post so they are getting close.

    • If your brother is waiting for over a month for his bonus to post I am guessing he messed up somehow.

      • He received his bonus just over 11 weeks from meeting the spending requirement. He actually met the spending requirement on his very first transaction.

  • My Personal Gold which i met spending for last week bonus posted one day after, so its not that much slower

  • Biz gold points posted next day. It might have been faster but I didn’t check until the next day.

  • Hell my last set of points from regular monthly spending took over a WEEK to post after I made my monthly payment. Slow slow slow.

  • Does this apply to referral bonus as well? Successfully referred one last week but no bonus posted

  • Another person waiting on Saks credit to post. Maybe there is a liquidity issue at there credit bonus division if it exists.

    • Same. Bought something beginning of July. Charge posted July 11, still no credit. Credits are annoying enough, having to track them and make sure they post, makes them even more annoying.

      • Very similar situation here.

      • I cancelled my card today and cited this - too much active management to make it worthwhile.

    • Glad to know it's not just me - I'm convinced it's related to my renewal being up...

      • Very similar situation here.

      • I was thinking the same thing. Made my Saks purchase first week of July and the credit still hasn't posted. My AF posted about a week later, I assume it's because they want to make sure you actually keep the card before giving the credit but still annoying.

        • Saks $50 credit is pretty worthless. I would say if you are close to your renewal date just dont' use the credit.

        • You can still cancel even if the credit hasn't posted yet, eventually it will or you can chat with them to get it manually applied.

          • Terms say card has to be open and you have to wait 8 weeks before a manual credit. Not sure it's actually enforced though.

  • not the case at all for me. i am still getting them like the day after i hit spend. just hit gold biz spend and got the SUB while the charge was pending. my spend is organic though - i am curious if there's any difference where SUBs are posting later for people MSing?
