American Express Signup Bonuses which were Previously Denied are now Posting

[Update 3/11/19: A few people who didn’t get the adjustment yesterday are seeing it today. Additionally, the 20%/$100 Gold card restaurant benefit which is part of the signup bonus is showing as well for those who are now eligible. Again, not everyone is getting this adjustment, we don’t know for certain why some are and some aren’t.]

American Express shows a pop-up to indicate when you aren’t eligible for a signup bonus. Strangely, even when no pop-up appeared, they still have been arbitrarily denying the bonus. Today, many r/churning members are seeing their denied signup bonuses from months back show up automatically in Amex account.

I’m unsure if this batch of bonuses are only for those who filed cases with Amex or it’s for anyone denied who did not get a pop-up.

In late January, Amex sent out adjustments for other kinds of bonuses which were missing, but not for signup bonuses. Now, they’re correcting the signup bonus denial issue. Yay! Hopefully it’s showing for everyone, and hopefully it means that this won’t be an issue going forward, but we’ll have to wait on data points on that.

  • I got the offer of 90,000 miles and $200 statement credit for opening a Delta Gold card. I made the required $2,000 spend within three months. And now they told me I was declined for that offer. I can be definitely sure no pop-up windows when I was applying for the credit card. I called their customer service they lied to me that I can still got the offer if I spend the required amount of money. American Express is playing tricks on the bonus offers. They just attracted people to open cards and spend money with them. And they can easily refuse any bonus they offered. If there are so many victims, could we sue American Express for compensation, at least give them a lesson.

  • I was approved for the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant AmEx Card and made the required $5,000 spend within three months. However, I never received the 100,000 point signup bonus. I made multiple calls to customer support, mailed two written appeals and ultimately was told I was a card churner and thus was not eligible for the signup bonus.

The "executive office" call center rep told me a popup window notified me I would not be eligible during the application process. I knew that had never happened. However, it was my word against theirs... They also made me feel as if I was the most abusive card churner known to man. I ended the approximately 60 minute call defeated, but knowing damn well AmEx was feeding me a bunch of lies.

Well wouldn't you know... the 100,000 signup bonus points were quietly applied to my account within the last week. AmEx plays dirty, but I came out victorious!

  • I got a random 10k sign up bonus that wasnt attributed to any one card. The only thing I can think of is I had a 10k offer from the BBP card, but i didn't bother to hit the MSR.

  • Another positive DP. Like many, I was furious with AMEX after reaching the spending limit on the SPG business card and then denied multiple times for my bonus due to supposed and inaccurate miss use history. Some reps told me I only had one business card from 2 years ago. None the less after the run around I was fed up with AMEX after being a member for over 20 years. After reading this post I checked and sure enough I was given the 100,000 Marriott points on March 11. Thanks AMEX for finally coming through!

  • I was shown an upgrade offer for $250 to upgrade my Blue Cash to Blue Cash Preferred. I spent the required $2,000.. now it's been almost 6 weeks and no bonus. :/

  • Amex likely realized that it could save $ by issuing / awarding the previously denied pts than to pay out via arbitration in the long run

  • A related Amex data point:
I signed up for the Ascend card with 100k bonus and free weekend night after first anniversary.

I was denied the free weekend night certificate after paying the annual fee.

  • I signed up for the AMEX Gold card and was denied the bonus. Got the 50,000 points and the $100 credit yesterday! Was told on chat that I was declined the sign-up bonus with reason being "INCENTIVE_MISUSE_HISTORY" . I didn't get the pop up and even confirmed the bonus after approval with an AMEX agent on chat. I filed a complaint with the CFPA on march 3rd after I was told I wasn't getting the bonus.

  • Crap like this makes me not want to touch amex and will be glad when I am done killing all the MR cards

  • Yay! Another positive DP - had no pop-up during Platinum Schwab application (6 months ago), but was still denied the 60K bonus.
    Complaint to no avail.
    And now I got my 60K :)
