Update 7/7/19: Deal is back and valid until August 31st, 2019. Hat tip to reader Cody
America’s Christian Credit Union is offering a bonus of up to 62,500 when you open a new Visa Signature credit card. Let’s take a look at this card in more detail.
The Basics
- Sign up bonus of 62,500 points is broken down as follows:
- Receive 10,000 bonus rewards points upon card issuance
- Receive 2,500 bonus rewards points on first transaction
- Receive 50,000 bonus rewards points if you spend $3,000 in the first 90 days
- No annual fee
- Card earns at the following rates:
- Earn 1.25 points per $1 spent on purchases
- Earn 2.50 points per $1 spent at charitable organizations
- 0% introductory APR on purchases and balance transfers for the first six months
- A portion of every purchase is also directed to ministries (isn’t clear what percentage). Slightly more information here.
- $3 fee is charged if you receive paper statements
How Much Are Points Worth
This page shows that the points earned are actually CUREWARDS points. I believe points are worth 1¢ each when redeeming for statement credit, although you need to redeem a minimum of 5,000 points at a time. The points earned are CU Rewards points, these can be redeemed for flights. I know you used to be able to get additional value on flights (more on that here) but I don’t think that’s available anymore.
Becoming A Member
Membership is restricted and you need to complete a statement of faith to be able to join. Full details here. Primarily, churches, ministries, and schools aligned with Wesleyan Christian doctrine and their ministers, employees, members/attendees, officers, teachers, students, and others associated with these organizations qualify for membership.
Our Verdict
This isn’t the first time we covered America’s Credit Union, they also offer a 4% APY 1 year CD to new members as well that is worth considering. This credit card bonus looks great, seems to be $625 in cash value for only $3,000 in spend. The downside is the restrictive membership requirements. If you are eligible it’s definitely a card worth at least considering. I know some readers will find the restrictive membership unfair, but unfortunately that’s life. Let’s try to keep the comments for discussing the actual deal, rather than the membership requirements themselves.

This comment will probably be buried since the bonus is dead, but it seems like the bonus is not 2.5x for charitable donations but 5x. I posted a $186 statement just now and I received 931 rewards. Even though the website says 2.5x, it seems like we are getting the 5x bonus that the business card version receives, which makes this much nicer.
I actually got a letter in November specifically stating points are doubled for the remainder of the year - that makes charity a 5 points transaction, which I was wondering but had not confirmed, so thanks. Presumably the 1.25 everyday spend is now 2.5, so that's good to know as well
Can you confirm if the visa signature is still giving 5x on charitable donations?
I wish...that was just for the remainder of that calendar year, a few years ago. It hasn't come up since as far as I know. 2.5% is still not bad, especially if you end up itemizing those donations, including any fees for giving via credit card.
has anyone successfully redeemed for cash back/statement credit? I am not seeing that at all amongst my various reward options...
Has anyone received the bonus yet? I hit the minimum spend, but bonus has not posted yet.
My first statement closed and I seemingly didn't receive any of the bonuses. I called, confirmed I do have the Visa Signature. After some back and forth, the representative said the bonus will post within 30 days of August 31, which is the "valid through date" for the offer. So hopefully it pans out. The cu rewards page and statement doesn't give any breakdown of how I arrived at the current points balance
My 3rd statement closed and I received the 10k points bonus. I have not yet seen the 50k, but am waiting for 30 days past August 31st to confirm if they post then.
I'm in the same boat as well. I remember the banker I opened with mentioning that the bonuses would pay after September 30th, so hopefully we see it soon. Will update if/when I receive.
Still have not seen the 50k bonus post even though it has been 30 days after August 31st. Has anyone else seen it?
I have not.
My guess is points only get added on statement close, and that we probably have to wait til then to get them. I'm still deciding whether or not to call them. If I do I'll report back what they say.
Did you ever call them? I still haven't gotten all my bonus points!
Statement just closed. Got all the bonus points now and just redeemed them.
My bonus just posted too. The online UI isn't the best since you can't see how your rewards are earned, but at least it works!
Same
I'm in the same boat. My 3rd statement closed and I received 10k bonus. Still don't see the 50k... it stinks that the website is so bad that we can't see how our reward points are broken down either.
Can you give an update if you ever receive your 50k?
Hardpull and they requested my 2017 & 2018 tax returns + all schedules. Sent everything in and denied with blessings for my financial endeavors.
I applied the visa signature card, but was offered the choice of another card: reward platinum. Can i still qualify for the offer If i got the platinum card?
My wife, who is a homemaker, applied for the personal card. She just got a denial letter citing these reasons:
Temporary or irregular employment
Length of employment
Hopefully a phone call can clear it up. Anyone else have this experience?
Buyer beware: there are at least 2 DP’s (including myself) where ACCU approves the application but instead of giving the Signature Rewards card they silently substitute the Platinum card (NO bonus). Worst thing is they didn’t alert me to this. Very shady.
Update: upon calling I was indeed approved for Visa Signature. The welcome letter says so also (missed it the first time). However, the website says Platinum- ACCU says all the cards say Platinum online. So, all good but still watch the opening letter closely.
I applied 7/8 (for the Visa signature, which also initiated the process to apply for membership). Took 2-3 days to be contacted. They requested a W2, pay stub, license, utility bill, which played out over the course of several days. By 7/19, I had membership. That day, the login just showed the newly opened savings account. Today, I see a $10,000 Visa Platinum entry on my home screen. I noticed this wording in the fine print of the visa signature, and I fear it may have happened to me, though I don't have the physical card.
"Applicants who do not qualify for the Visa Signature Rewards Card may be approved for a Visa Platinum or Share-Secured Visa credit card. "
If that's in fact the case, I will get 2500 points after my first purchase and that's it.
May want to proceed with caution
I am currently 4/24 credit card wise and probably 9/36 CHEX
Any update on this? I think the same might have happened to me.
Edit: this is actually pretty messed up. I get that in this game you win some and you lose some (and maybe I should have read the fine print), but this is such a terrible bait and switch to the typical consumer.
Not yet - I'm out of town until Thursday and didn't receive the card by the time I left. I did get a card with a handwritten note and an enclosed representative's card, so I may inquire with her if that's what happened to see if there's any recourse. Please keep me posted as well of something happens for you over the next week while I'm away
Update - a friend of mine received his card earlier this week. It says platinum on his account but the physical card says "Signature Visa" (he didn't save his approval letter because he wasn't thinking to). He called to verify that he indeed was approved for the signature visa and the offer is attached to his account.
Got home today, appears I have the Visa signature as well, despite my assumption based on the web portal. Will be back after the spend/bonus to confirm
He received the initial bonus for the first transaction and is waiting on the MSR-bonus. But that indicates that it's a Signature Visa with the correct bonus attached.
I also received mine and it was a Signature Visa.
Thanks, will do. I actually just got approved a couple of days ago and moved this week, so I'm having my mail forwarded. I imagine it will be a bit before I have the card in hand. I'll update as soon as I know something.
DO NOT even waste your time, Christian or not. This is basically a scam. It’s a pull from Experian, yet to be determined if it was hard or soft. My husband is a full-time minister in one of the approved denominations. I applied on my own, and I have an “excellent” credit score in all 3 credit bureaus, only $5k in student debt, no consumer debt, a 99% payment rate (and the 2 missed CC payments are 3 years old), a full-time job/income of my own, average credit age of 10 years (oldest being 13, brought down from getting a new account when I got married a year ago) and a squeaky clean Chex report except for the 1 new account/inquiry I’ve opened in the past 12 *years* which was when I got married and moved out of state a year ago. This was my first try on any of these bonuses, so definitely not too many inquiries. They rejected me, even when I asked them to reconsider. I highly doubt anyone gets approved for this card, and I think it’s false advertising on their part. I'm pretty sure no one in the comments has gotten approved either. I’m going to report them. I asked them to immediately cancel the savings account I applied for in order to help the application. Don’t waste your time and risk getting a hard pull or having a new account show up on your Chex in an attempt to set up a new account for this scam.
Blessed be the fruit, 🍎
How do you know so much about credit while never having applied for a bonus until this one?
Regardless, you’ve convinced me to stay away.
Under his eye. 👁
Denied due to Chex.
How many inquiries in the last 12/24 months?
