The Fine Print

  • Offer valid for in-store and online eligible purchases at U.S. Supermarkets.
  • “Supermarket”means a standalone merchant in the U.S. primarily selling supermarket products.
  • Excludes gasoline purchases and gift card purchases.
  • Specialty food stores, Superstores or Warehouse Clubs are not considered Supermarket stores

Our Verdict

I couldn’t find this on my points-earning cards, but a friend got the 750 offer, and DDG reports on the 500 offer. Pretty nice offer as we all use the grocery, and this amounts to an extra 3x or 5x on top of  your regular earning rate.

  • This one is totally random. My wife got it on one rarely used AMEX Everyday card, along with the 15% back on gas offer (also got that one on one of my Blue cards). Also have an offer for an extra MR point on Shoprite (supermarket) purchases on that card, so I guess I will use the 15% off there. Maybe I'll just buy a $67 gift card to max it out. I did not receive the supermarket offer on any of my cards, nor did my two kids (who are AU's on some of my cards).

  • It's my recollection that I normally don't get rewards on the spend for these type of offers, is that everyone else's experience? I don't have this on my Cash Magnet card, but I do have an offer to get a $20 statement credit for spending $1,000 (anywhere, apparently) up to 3x. Trying to figure out if it would be 2% or 3.5%.

  • Last year I got this offer on a Delta card. This year it is on my Amex Gold card--as if I need any more incentive to use a card that already gives me 4x MR points at a supermarket.

  • My dad got it on his authorized user card on my everyday card account. I don't have it myself though.
