This offer is showing for many in their Amex logins, possibly only for people who live in the CA, NY, NJ, IL areas.

The Fine Print

  • Offer valid for services provided in CA, NY, NJ and IL only.
  • Valid for bill payments for cable and satellite television services made directly with the provider. Payments can be made directly with the provider online, via mobile app, by phone, or by mail.
  • Payments for hardware and installation services, if included on the monthly service bill, are included. Payments made at service centers do not qualify.
  • Excludes payments for satellite radio services.

Our Verdict

This is a pretty nice discount on cable. Since you can do each card twice and you can also enroll multiple cards using the multi-tab trick, you’ll be able to get a 20% discount on your cable bill for a while.

The terms sound like the $50+ has to be in one transaction. If your bill is less than $50, you can try overpaying the bill in $50 increments, which will prepay it for the next month, and this will trigger the offer.

Along these lines, a few days before 1/31/16, you can prepay the next few months (or however long you are comfortable with) of your cable bill and lock in the discount that way for the future.

If your bill is more than $50, you can make multiple payments of exactly $50 to maximize this offer.

  • I did it twice on my Blue Cash ED, which is the only card I got this offer on, but the offer is still there! What does this mean? An extra opportunity?
    PS I did it for my internet bill with Comcast.

  • Live in NJ. Saved Amex offer on two cards. Paid Tmobile bill for $50 using one of the cards. Waited 2 days. Still no response from Amex confirming offer is used.

    I did notice a Dropbox offer for $25 off $50 that I didn't see yesterday though, not interested at the moment but some could find it useful.

  • Received the offer on multiple cards. Your image above is for the cell phone offer. Was confused for a second there.

  • Could cord cutters take advantage of this by paying their Internet bill? If it's provided through Comcast, I wonder if Amex would know.
