Our Verdict
Seems like some/all people with the Gold card are seeing this offer, and it’s also been mentioned as appearing on the Hilton Aspire and possibly other cards. The Platinum personal card and business card offer a $179 benefit for Clear membership, so this offer won’t be a gain for everyone, but for those without a Platinum it could be useful.
Some of the maximization ideas mentioned in this post can be applicable to the Amex Offer as well, e.g. going through a portal. Just keep in mind that the Amex Offer only gives you a one-time credit, you can’t get one credit for $119 and another for $60 (if that’s even a thing).

Just received the email reminder for renewal. Is disabling Auto-Renew sufficient enough or do we need to cancel the membership? TIA
So, good news, bad news. My $119 charge went through, and I got the money back within a day. Bad news, my wife's $60 did not get charged. I called Clear customer service, and it turns out that we both had accounts set up with biometrics under different email addresses from when we signed up at a baseball stadium several years ago. Clear wanted to cancel the new account and charge me again on the old one. I don't think that will work well with AMEX, they will likely claw back the $119 when they see the refund and then only refund $60 on the second charge since I will be maxed out. Does anyone have experience with this on AMEX? If you return something from an offer and then buy again, can you get credited again? Will CS fix it if I contact them? I was going to finish setup at the airport tomorrow, not sure what's going to happen now.
I finally signed up since we will be at an airport soon where we can complete the signup. I used the Delta link and added my wife, but I've only been charged the $119 so far. When do they charge the $60? I received the email to set up both my login and my wife's.
Did not get an email from AMEX about redeeming the offer, but I didn't get it for this month's dining credit either, so I'm pretty sure that it's broken.
I've just signed up with Clear and a family member today, 10/28, and only $119 charge went through. Does anyone have DP on when will Clear charge the $60 for family member? I've tried to call Clear Customer Service at 1-855-253-2763 and waited for more than an hour with no responses...
Thanks in advance.
I signed up when they had the United offer weeks back and they finally charged me on Oct 26 after the trial period. I see a pending charge of $179 for me and and a family member. It's still pending after 2 days. I hope it post before the offer expires. Did your family member accept the invitation and setup the account via the email link?
Yes, my family member accepted the invitation and setup the account via the email link.
BTW, I was able to connect to Clear CS last night and was told due to their accounting issues, they received several calls complaint about only $119 (United Airlines MileagePlus member) was charged but not for family member ($60) and she assured that both members are covered. I see a pending charge of $60 in my account this morning and also hope all post before the offer expires tomorrow.
Has anyone get an email from AMEX about redeeming the offer?
No emails but the credit has shown up very quickly.
Thanks, MisterBill. How many days after the charges posted that you see the credit?
My Clear charge went pending on Oct 26 and posted on Oct 28 at night. The credit was posted the very next day.
The credit posted the day after the charge posted. Very quick.
My wife's charge posted several days after I called them about it not showing up, although it was for $59.05 instead of the $60 that I was expecting.. See my post below for my horror story. I have no idea if it posted because I called, or something else, and i never cleared up the problem of having two accounts. TBH, I don't fly enough to really care whether I have Clear or not.
Does anyone have Clear credit they don't need? Trying to sign-up at a discount. Please email me at squnky.jr@gmail.com, thx.
I don't have it on my Gold card. I just talked to Amex CS about it, and they told me it was for Delta and Green card members only. Don't know what they're thinking. I told them I meant the Amex Offer.
That would be "some" gold card members have this offer. I don't.
So this means you can now get for 119 through UA, and add family for $60?
no dice for amex blue biz
So, if I have the platinum card I only can get one free enrollment, but if the offer is on the gold card ( no offer on mine) you can get more than one... am I reading this correctly? Thanks
They've changed it to be like the Platinum where you can do multiple transactions up to $179. They probably had people complaining that adding additional members to their accounts wasn't being covered since Clear does that as a separate transaction from your main membership.
I had it added to my Gold card but this week I took the upgrade offer to the platinum and it still shows as an Amex offer. Possible double dip with the clear credit from Platinum? Wonder it that would work since an Amex offer added to my gold card worked when I used the platinum upgraded card. Any data points?
Good way to get a clawback. Previous Amex offers stacked with credits resulting in negative fee have been clawed back. Tread lightly
