We broke the news that the Chase 5/24 rule applies to most of the Chase co-branded credit cards (and business cards). In that post I said the following cards were affected (emphasis mine):
- Chase Business Ink Plus/Cash:
- All Chase Marriott Cards (I assume Ritz-Carlton is included in this as well):
- All Chase Southwest Cards:
- All Chase United Cards:
I had assumed the Ritz-Carlton card was included because of their relationship with Marriott. A few days ago I received a data point from a reader saying they applied for the Ritz-Carlton card after this rule went into place, were well over 5/24 and received an approval after it originally went to pending status.
I asked my source at Chase and they said that the Ritz-Carlton card wasn’t specifically mentioned as going under this new rule and they believed it wasn’t affected, but it might be because of the Marriott relationship. Since then I’ve received additional data points from readers (most via e-mail and this one via Twitter and another) saying they were approved well over 5/24. At this stage I think it’s relatively safe to assume that Ritz-Carlton is not affected by this change.
Feel free to share your data points in the comments below, I’ll try and do a full review of this card shortly.

Ritz Carlton card is definitely not affected. Applied 6/21, approved after one day of initial pending; I was at 26/24.
I applied for the SouthWest personal and business and denied both for 5/24.
Which card's are not effected by the 5/24 rule

Anyone applied the Marriott business card for the 100k pts lately? I wonder if the business cards are also affected by the 5/24 rule.
I applied for the Marriott business card on 5/26 after being way over the 5/24 limit. Took a while but it looks like I'm approved since I see the new card in my chase account.
Yes they are, but some people have been able to get approved anyway.
I tried to get the 70K United card and it went pending and then I was told I have too many cards open in a paper letter from Chase.
I doubt even Ink is under the 5/24 rule. Just a month ago, I applied for ink plus just for test and I was approved for more than 12 cards last 12 months. The application went to pending for 2 weeks and got approved. Probably waiting for the pending application is the way to go?
When did you apply for the card? It only went into affect late last month.
I applied on 5/23, was approved on 6/3
The rule first kicked in 5/24. You made by the skin or you teeth.
This may be due to no bonus points to churn. They offer two nights at a Ritz instead. 5/24 might suddenly go into effect if they offer 140k points again and a bunch of churners apply.
I think it's more to do with how Chase has structured their contracts with their different co-branded partners.
i applied for the ritz carlton card on may 30th instant 5k approval. i'm way way way over the 5/24 rule. I already had 3 chase cards before I applied. i have a total of 4 co-branded chase cards-- united club ,hyatt fairmont and now ritz.
Thanks for the DP.
Probably because of the high AF...
I'm not following. Marriott cards are impacted but Ritz cards are not because of the Marriott relationship??
We thought that Ritz Cards would be affected because of the Marriott relationship, but they aren't affected at all.
