Applied for INK at a Lower Bonus? Get Matched the 70,000 & 30,000 Offers

If you recently applied for the Chase INK Plus or INK Cash cards with a 60k/$200 bonus, you should be able to get a match for the current bonus offer of 70,000 points and $300, respectively.

If you get a Chase credit card and the bonus is subsequently raised, Chase is known to be willing to match the higher signup bonus upon request.

Rules

There are two rules to keep in mind about this matching policy:

  • The new offer has to be publicly available offer or an offer you received yourself
  • It has to be within 90 days of when you were approved for the card (or, perhaps, 90 days from the application date)

In our case, it’s not entirely clear that these offers can be matched since the 70k/$300 bonus offers are in-branch only and aren’t available online. Still, being that this is a public offer which is available in-branch, lots of us are having success getting the 70k offer matched upon request. Send a secure message to request the match. If they won’t do the match, try again with another rep or try calling in; many people have had success with some persistence.

You can also include an attachment to your Chase Secure Message; attach a picture of the flyer with the 70k/$300 offer. Here are some images of the flyer that were uploaded to Imgur by a helpful Reddit member.

Chase told this Reddit member that on April 27, they revised their decision and agreed to match offers. It’s likely that many who had difficulty getting a match were from the earlier group before they made this change or before the reps got used to the change.

Let me share that upon the recent feedback received from new customers like you, about the new 70,000 bonus points sign up bonus offer, we have decided to revise our decision since April 27, 2016. Hence, we will be authorizing the offer on your account ending in XXXX, where you would earn 70,000 bonus points after you spend $5,000 on purchases in the first 3 months after account opening

Matching the Annual Fee Wavier

The new INK Plus offer has two advantages over the standard offer: it’s 10k higher and it gets the annual fee waived for the first year. While there’s a high success rate on getting the extra 10k bonus, it’s doubtful that you’ll be able to get the annual fee waived.

It’s possible that with much more intervention and escalation that can be done as well, but it will be especially difficult since the annual-fee-waiver doesn’t show clearly on the flyers that are circulating.

New Applicants

We noted in the previous post that some people may opt to simply apply online for the 60k offer and get the 70k offer matched to save the trouble of going into a branch.

Note that there’s always a chance that they won’t agree to the match for some reason, and also you’ll be paying an extra $95 for the first year’s annual fee by going the online/get-a-match route. However, if you have a friend or family member with a referral link, they’ll get a 10k bonus for referring you, and that can counterbalance the annual fee, in a way.

  • Can you give your ss# instead of a TIN when applying in branch if you don't have a legitamite business?

  • Wife applied a few weeks ago for ink plus. Sent a message asking to be matched today and within a few hours they matched it without any questions asked. I thought for sure I would miss out on this (they would only allow a few people do it and then crack down) but in this case it seems the opposite has occurred (getting the match later was easier).

Any update on the 5/24 happenings? CO branded was still good about 3 weeks ago wife and I got Hyatt without too much issue.

  • I also applied in early Feb and wrote Chase this afternoon. The additional 10,000 points are already in my UR account! So fast! Thank you, doc! Appreciate the tips!

  • Success getting the 10k points today, really easy. Didn't ask for the AF waiver though because the flyer doesn't say that all, so not sure where the info comes from.

  • Thanks! I got the card on February 5th. Sent a SM last night and was awarded the extra 10,000 this morning.

  • Thanks for the post! Requested the match this afternoon and got matched in the evening! Got $10k but didn't ask to waive annual fee.

  • Oh, thank you for this. I got a Chase Cash in Feb. I sent SM and they declined, asked for the offer I received. I uploaded the jpeg from the the Reddit link and voila! 10,000 deposited. I didn't give an explanation about it being in bank, etc. just uploaded the jpeg.
