Deal History

Our Verdict

This is a regular offer and one of the best offered for REDcard, previous offers can be viewed here. Sometimes we see $50 off, but that requires $100 in spend. Sometimes you can also get $4 via Swagbucks as well but not currently available. There is no hard pull for the debit card or reloadable card.

It seems Target now allows opening the card again every 180 days. If you closed out an old card and it’s been more than 180 days since opening the previous card, they should approve you for a new one. (Previously it was every 90 days.)

    • No. I have never been able to find any evidence of a pull on any regular credit report.

For the Target debit card, they WILL pull Certegy and MAY PULL EWS.
(I don't think it's possible to freeze either)

I have never found any trace of the Reloadable on ANY report. @guest_1944863

  • P1 & P2 cards arrived today, so no detriment for P2 to do the trial deposits. (Applied on 10/06) Current expiration is 12/02/24.

It seems like so long since I did this, I had trouble remembering the exact steps. The important parts...

    • Download the app, log in, and from the Discover tab... tap the upper right corner of the search bar where it has a barcode-looking symbol ⏸️ to the right of the mic 🎙️symbol.
    • That brings up the camera and super quickly it will scan the barcode on the lower left of the coupon.
    • Next, go to the Wallet tab and apply the coupon. You can use a different method to pay if you desire.
    • It's not required to activate the debit card. Using the QR code in the upper right of the coupon will try to get you to activate the debit card online.
    • You don't need to create a login for the debit card, unless you want access to it to change linked banks & view transactions, etc.

Personally, I will probably do store pick-up on my online order. If doing a store purchase, you should just be able to enter your phone number at the register, or scan the app, to get the $50 off. Just make sure you hit the magic number of at least $50 in authorized merch.

  • I called to close my debit card today after 15 days, and the agent added a note to my account that I have opened and closed the account multiple times and won't be able to get a new card. Lets see if that happens.

  • Does anybody know if eGift card works for reloadable promo? Maybe it's some side service and is not considered as Target purchase

  • Anyone with dud coupons recently? P2 didn't have the Target app, so I signed off the app on my phone and they signed on with their own account just to scan the coupon. Got a success popup, but no sign of the coupon appearing in their wallet or Target Circle offers area.

Guess we have to go chat or call for a reissued coupon?

  • P1 & P2 auto-approved for the Debit today.
Last opened: 4/2/24 (187 days ago) Last closed: 8/27/24

With P2, this time we are doing trial deposits, hopefully to avoid any EWS inquiry. I've always done the automated linking, usually to Capital One.

    • Technically, my P2 wasn't approved until today when verifying trial deposits. Done/approved.

My desire to test avoiding the EWS inquiry might not be valid though. I looked at P1 & P2 EWS reports from mid-Sept this year and there was no EWS inquiry done in April 2024.

In Oct 2023, they did pull as "TARGET via CERTEGY WELLS". Not sure what the difference would have been.

    • Have you or P2 ever been denied for EWS inquiries?

I have 84 inquiries (also 42 open accounts and 15 closed), and I don’t have any issues with EWS banks.

      • Ummm... that's hard to say. PNC, BofA, Citizens... all EWS banks, my P2 has or had issues getting approved. Do they specifically say the denial is due to EWS? No. But a little inconvenience to avoid one inquiry on her report... I think is worth it. I recently pulled EWS for both of us, and doing so about every 6 months, so it will be awhile before I have the DP.

IIRC, EWS used to have two sections of inquiries on the EWS report, but now the new account application and promotional inquiries are together. Some of them are just due to linking accounts via ACH.

        • Gotcha. I did have some issues with EWS banks last year, until I updated all my reported open accounts with the same address and email. EWS takes contact information from the application and returns a confidence score based on your report, so mismatches can cause low scores and denials.

  • Since this new debit card requires Target Circle account to apply, can I use the card right away for online orders, or I still need to wait for the physical card in the mail first?

    • You can use the card right away if you choose to have it instantly linked, but you won't get $50 off...

You have to wait for the mailed card with the coupon and scan it with the app to get the discount. @guest_1926484

  • DP: I signed up for the reloadable card in mid-August. After receiving the card in the mail, I did an ACH deposit from my bank account for $51. I used the card at the target store to buy a physical target GC in the amount of $51 on 9/5. Received the $50 bonus on 9/26 which I then ACH debited back to my bank account.

  • I was approved for debit card (last time opened 03.28.2024) and I was approved for reloadable (last time opened 09.18.2023). Fineprint for reloadable says once in life. Is it true or they pay?

  • Called to close the debit cards for P1 and P2 since next week would be 180 days since their openings. The two supervisors we talked to both said that we would need to wait 90 days after closing to reapply. We'll see next week.

    • Wait, what? Did you really ask them when you could churn the next card while closing your current cards?

        • That's a very strange thing to say to try to retain a customer...

Most people, besides us churners, close accounts because they don't want them anymore. Why would they care when they could reapply?

And the people that do care when they can reapply should be the customers they don't want. 😕
