Avoiding Fees

Monthly Fees

The free checking account has no monthly fees to worry about

$1 Paper Statements

After your second month you’ll be charged $1 for paper statements, so opt in for paperless statements when signing up.

Early Account Termination Fee

I wasn’t able to find a fee schedule so I’m unsure if there is any early account termination fee or not.

Our Verdict

Better than the $150 referral offer, but only available in very small regional area unfortunately.

  • Approved OOS. Chex 2/1, 2/2, 2/3, 3/4, 8/6, 29/12, 56/24. Approved one week after submitting application.

  • I got approved for the account in CA (still within their footprint but outside of NW Ar) but will I get approved for the bonus? WOuld suck if I do not :( Anyone with OOS datapoint who got the bonus credited to their account?

  • Another fun DP - after your accounts are already open, you can add an additional "Special Savings" account and fund it with another $2k CC funding! Not sure if this can be repeated yet again, but $6 total CC funding so far is just nuts. XD

    • @guest_1424873 @guest_1423295 Did you receive a second Chex inquiry from Unify when you opened your “Special Savings” account? Thank you

    • Did you receive a second Chex inquiry from Unify when you opened your "Special Savings" account? Thank you @guest_1424873

    • @guest_1423295 speaking of Chex, do you know if you got another pull when you opened the Special Savings? Other CUs (I'm looking at you, Alliant) have been known to pull once per new account, even if you're a long-standing member. If not, I'm going to jump all over their 5% CD special.

@guest_1464564 probably not much help, but I was approved in Dec 2021 at 0/3 2/6 5/12. I would imagine anyone would be fine at those levels, but they might also be biased toward people in their footprints, which I am (CA, not AR).

      • @guest_1531751 they add an inquiry every time. let's just say my chex is wrecked from them lmao

      • Thank you @guest_1531751 , it is helpful. Hopefully someone OOS with report their Chex at the time of application.

    • @guest_1424873 Do you have records of what your Chex inquiries were 1 month prior and 3 months prior to applying to Unify? Thanks in advance!

      • @guest_1464564 I was at 0 in the past month and 2 for 3 months.

@guest_1531751 yes it was another Chex pull (to my annoyance).

  • Can confirm that both CashApp and Amazon reloads work for triggering the debit card spend portion of the bonus!

    • @guest_1424873 Were you able to earn all $250 from this CU despite being OOS? TIA.

  • FYI this actually allows $4k max CC funding!!! $2k per each account (mandatory savings share plus whichever checking account you pick).

    • @guest_1423295 But the $100 bonus is only for funding through visa debit card, isn't it? So we lose CC funding for the checking account if we want to get the $100 bonus for the visa debit funding? AM I missing something here?

      • You're reading the terms wrong... You can fund however you want. The debit card reference just means that you have to get the Unify debit card associated with your new account.

        • I got approved for the account in CA (still within their footprint but outside of NW Ar) but will I get approved for the bonus? WOuld suck if I do not 🙁 Anyone with OOS datapoint who got the bonus credited to their account? The post does not say FL but @guest_1424873 were you ale to receive the bonus in FL?

        • Great, I live in California and got approved for the account - when wer you able to receive the bonus? Any info on this will be highly useful!

        • @guest_1464564 and @guest_1531407 Hi. Do you remember what your chex were when you applied, or do you have an estimate of how many accts you had opened around that time? Thanks.

      • @guest_1424862 when filling out the app it'll have you pick one of two associations to join (no cost to you). It was really super easy! I'm in Florida.

  • Has anyone tried applying through one of the affiliate programs (Surfrider Foundation or Friends of Hobbs)?

The wording "There will be no ongoing commitment or charge to you if we open your account through either of our affiliate partners. Once your application is complete, we’ll confirm whether you qualify through your employer or community. If not, we will qualify you through the affiliate partner you select below" seems pretty liberal.

    • This doesn't seem too liberal, though:

"To be eligible for the bonus offers, you must reside in Benton County, AR or Washington County, AR. UNIFY employees, volunteers, and family members not eligible. Not valid with any other offers and subject to change at any time."

It's possible you could get the bonus regardless, but seems like they would have a good reason to deny you a bonus. Could be worth it to see if you can, if you're seeking the 2k CC funding.

  • I have referrals for Unify CU for the $125 bonus for anyone residing outside of Arkansas. Looks like I still have several slots available.

Please send a quick e-mail to me. According to the Unify web site all I need is a name and e-mail address to send referrals. This is open to anyone reading DoC.

    My e-mail:
    happyrefs @ gmail

    • Technically, the normal Unify offer is only $25 per referral - they have targeted promos by region apparently. From what I saw, only certain states can get the $125. Not sure why you feel it necessary to post this here though? @will @chucksithe
