Our Verdict

Standard bonus is 20,000 points but we’ve seen 30,000 point offers before, although it’s somewhat rare to have a public link available. How useful this offer is really depends on how much you value Amtrak points and train travel in general. Points are worth 2.56-2.9¢ depending on if you’re redeeming them for Acela trains or not.   • How do you link your card to your Amtrak account? I created a new account at Amtrak Guest Rewards and it creates a new account number for me.

  • So there is an offer now where you get $100 free and 20k points..... i would say the 30k points is a better deal but still...

  • So I am very new to this, but did read the associated links.

    I applied for the Amtrak card using the direct link above. They said they couldn't approve or deny me right away so I called and they approved- BUT they said they only saw the 20,000 mile deal on the site, and could only give those points.

    I gave them the direct link site but they said they would only honor points advertised on the BOA site.

    I cancelled, and applied again online, and got the same pending status. Going to call tomorrow, Monday. If I can't get the 30,000 points approved up front, should I still get the card and then try speaking to a credit analyst? Or should I ask to get approved for the 30K points before getting the card?

    I also put a credit alert on all 3 credit bureaus in July after getting phished by a site. Do you think this is why I can't get approved immediately online? (Also didn't get approved for an Alaska card)

    My background is I have an 800+ CS and over 50K income. I haven't taken out a new credit card in several years, hence me being new to this.

    I'm an Amtrak lover and need to take trains to do caretaking for my elder, so am really gunning for those extra 10K points!

  • Got the card this week and still working on meeting the spending requirements. But I just received a welcome-letter in the mail from Amtrak with Single-visit Station Lounge pass for complimentary lounge acces for one guest and me. It was a nice surprise!
