Our Verdict

Application page says 25,000 points is worth $200 towards travel charges, but it’s actually 1¢ per point so I suspect they didn’t update properly. The 1.5x earning rate on this card isn’t interesting unless you have Preferred rewards and then up to 2.625 on all purchases is fantastic. Most people won’t be in a situation to do that though, a bonus of $250 towards travel purchases isn’t fantastic and the minimum spend requirement is $500 more than the $200 offer on the cash rewards card (still $500 spend for an extra $50 is good for most people). I still think travel offers will be better for most people, such as:

As always read these things everybody should know about Bank of America cards before applying.

  • What's the BOA CC rule again? 4/24, 3/12, 2/6? They're even more tightwad than Chase now.

    • Think is is 2/2, not 2/6.

Note that if you get a card "approved in error" like I did last year that still counts against the limits. So with my 3 BoA cards and one "approved in error" I won't be approved for anything for 24 months after my first BoA card was approved.

    • I picked up the cash rewards visa platinum in July of 2017. I was at 8/24 at the time of the application and was instantly approved. The do have restrictions on how quickly you can get multiple bank of America cards but I don't believe they have anything like the Chase 5/24 rule.

    • But they only check BofA cards, Chase checks ANY card appearing on the credit report for 5/24.

  • Can I send the points from this card to premium rewards card and then use that as standard cash back?

    • I just confirmed that you can do this for the business version of their Travel Tewards card, so I’m pretty sure the personal version can transfer to the Premium Rewards personal card too.

Also, you can transfer from one family member’s Travel Rewards card to another family member’s Premium Rewards card.

    • Just make a fully refundable travel purchases, such as a rental car or Southwest airfare (NOT Wanna Get Away fare). Then redeem your points towards the travel purchase, and cancel it. You will have a credit balance, for which you can request a refund check.

    • Huh? This card is just like the Premium Rewards card. You redeem the points the same as the Premium Rewards, if I'm not mistaken. Can't do cash back, unless there's a new development that I don't know about.

      • I have noticed that this lets me transfer to BofA AAA which lets me cash back in $50 increments.

        • If you're able to do that with the Premium Rewards, I'd say there's a decent chance the same can be done with the Travel Rewards card. But I'm not sure.

          • Not quite. Travel Rewards points can only be used as a statement credit against travel expenses. Premium Rewards allows points to be used for cash back. Premium Rewards also provides a higher bonus (2% plus any Preferred Rewards multiplier) for travel and dining expenses.

          • The difference is Travel rewards points can be redeemed towards travel expenses while AAA points toward any expense at 1cpp. It has been a while i have sock drawer-ed both so i might remember wrong.

      • ok- so in premium rewards-I can transfer points to my BOA checking account at 1cent per point. My question is - can I send the point from this card to my premium rewards and then use that point to cash out to my BOA account with 1c per point?

        • Yes. Twice I have transferred points from Travel Rewards to Premium Rewards then used those points for a statement credit, no issues.

  • Isnt this the standard offer on this card? I hear them pitching this everyday at the branch.
