Barclays has launched an Xbox credit card. Card provides the following benefits:

    • 3 months of Game Pass Ultimate after making your first purchase within 180 days of account opening

  • Earn two 3-month Game Pass Ultimate codes. When you spend $7,000 or more within your first 12 months of opening your account
  • Card earns at the following rates:
    • 5X Card Points for every $1 spent on eligible products at the digital Microsoft Store
    • 3X Card Points for every $1 spent on eligible streaming services such as Netflix®, Disney+® and Spotify
    • 3X Card Points for every $1 spent on eligible dining delivery services such as Grubhub® and DoorDash

Our Verdict

This card has no redeeming features. Sign up bonus is poor, as are the earning rates and benefits. Better to just stick with another card that offers a high sign up bonus instead.

  • This is the modern version of the type of credit card sign up bonus offered at college campuses which was always a hat, water bottle, t-shirt, or a frisbee.

    • i got the "Discover Modern Rock" CD, which introduced me to "Sinnerman" by Extra Fancy, so, not a total loss...

      but yeah

  • Redemption options are minimal. Basically, items from the Xbox or Microsoft store.

    • All digital games and add-ons (such as DLC, expansions, virtual currency, etc.)
    • Hardware and consumer electronics including pre-orders (consoles, controllers, accessories, headsets, etc.) which are available through the full cart/checkout experience.
    • Pre-orders (digital and hardware)
    • The first payment for gaming subscriptions (such as Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Xbox Game Pass Core, PC Game Pass, EA Access, Uplay+)
    • Gift cards
    • All other consumer digital good

  • The card is pretty useless for 99% BUT, I can see game streamers, esports teams and content creators who spend big on game purchases benefiting from the 5x. Even then, they probably have enough money not to care.

  • Seven *thousand* dollars spend for 2x 3-month Game Pass Ultimate codes. That would normally cost $102 total. 1.4% back for a SUB. What an absolute joke, but Barclays has pretty much always been a joke. The only card even remotely worth getting was the Uber Visa (back when it first launched, 7 years ago) for the 4% back on dining. Then they absolutely gutted it and made it useless by only allowing you to redeem the cash back as "uber cash."

    Barclays is absolute trash.

    • Seriously, considering a hard pull can get you 100k ultimate rewards on another card and you could buy 3 Xbox's with that.

  • Interesting, they had the image of this card in the PL ads for a long time, I thought this card was already a thing.

  • I like how all the comments from the sad old boomers here basically say "video games are for kids"!

    • I want you to close your eyes for a moment and imagine a person whose largest expenses are Xbox purchases, streaming, and food delivery services. Tell me their age and their weight.

  • The card will give you the Red Ring of Death when Barclays has an issue with your account, or having their own IT issues.

    • Man, that's an old-school reference. My friend's X360 actually blew smoke while we were in Baghdad. The halcyon days of playing Halo 3 and Reach multi on deployments...until the RED RING ruined the show.
