The Offer

Sent out via e-mail, subject line is ‘Good news! Earn 5,000 AAdvantage® bonus miles’

  • Barclays is offering some Aviator Red cardholders 5,000 bonus miles when they spend at least $1,000 in total purchases between August 1 and December 31

Our Verdict

Basically an extra 5x miles on all purchases if you spend exactly $1,000.

  • anyone had their 5000 miles posted? the promotion says they will be posted after the promotion ends, which is in December!

  • had plans to close the card in Nov! In a quandary now..aah!
Literally had spent $2.99 to get 60,500 points!

Do they still waive AF? haven't spent more than $5 on it since getting the card.

  • I DON’T have an Aviator Red YET I was still targeted somehow, lol.

Literally closed my account with Barclays about 24 hours before I received this email.

At first I thought “Wow! Barclays must be REALLY desperate if they are already trying to get ME (financially-insignificant me) back as a customer. It’s barely been 24 hours!!!” But I quickly realized that my account closure likely hasn’t made it all the way through the company just yet, haha.

  • Does Barclays give bonus points to JetBlue Plus card holders (other than the 5000 anniversary bonus)? So far I have only gotten balance transfer offers, which are useless to me.

LOL, I only have to spend $4300!!

  • Haha, Barclays.. what a joke. Least favorite issuer. Only good for SUB, if they’ll even ever approve you. Very difficult to downgrade to no-fee cards. Of course, not targeted.

  • Received a different version. I have to spend $2500 between 08/01 and 12/31 for 5,000 AA miles.

  • targeted? I have Aviator Red but didn't get this email

edit: I missed "some", so it is targeted

  • I asked Barclay to match other card issuers who are allowing non travel reward redemption on travel cards and they basically said "well, what?, sorry no wait what?, sorry no , no way, no way at all, never never at all, just go away and don't ask those questions that are not in the master list of questions that everyone asks like "what is the balance on my card today?"
