Bed Bath & Beyond Warns Of Potential Bankruptcy (Use Up Gift Cards)

Bed Bath & Beyond noted today in a financial filing that it’s running out of cash and is considering bankruptcy. Worth keeping in mind for those who are holding Bed Bath & Beyond gift cards.

If I’m not mistaken, in the case of similar companies going bankrupt in the past it was still possible to use their gift cards during liquidation. Worth keeping in mind regardless.

  • WSJ reports that BBB defaulted on a loan payment to JP Morgan Chase. Bankruptcy filing should be imminent.

  • Ah yes the same company who posted losses within 1% of the amount it spent on stock buybacks last year.

People need to start taking matters into their own hands dealing with the rich

  • What happens if they go out of business? Will there be a process to liquidate gift cards back to cash?

  • I'm surprised on how many people are hating on BBB.
I for one have been getting so much deals from them that no other stores offer.
With gift card deals and their reward deal, diapers are cheapest in buy buy baby compared to any other retailers including Target and Costco.
Many household items they sell takes coupon, including Tylenol (good luck finding them now) or any baby stuff or baby clothing or kitchenware or many things they sell. 20-25% off stacked with giftcard at 20% off and any cashback for online ordering (1-3% usually) comes out to great value for many items.
I was like many who didn't shop there for years not knowing what I missed. Last few years I have given them so much business because of deals I got. Not to forget free membership for 2 years for free shipping.

    • You do realize that BBB simply charges the extra % more that you claim they're giving a discount on? You can buy the same quality for a fraction of the price elsewhere.

      • Not sure how often you have shopped or looked at their price to make this claim.
I have shopped at BBB many times and I can say with certainty all the things I have bought are comparable to market price. I'm a long time slickdealer (before slickdeals existed).
So, you better present a valid statement rather than posting a comment with no basis.

      • Agreed. Scored a BBB Kitchenaid Artisan mixer exclusive with extra accessories for pickup last month. It was less than $175 between coupons and Discover gift card redemption plus portal. Closest I could find locally on Black Friday was an ugly Target exclusive for double that and Best Buy model with lower wattage. More than $100 less than Kitchenaid refurb, without extras.
Still, the BBB looked dead quiet.

        • !@#$% I was planning to go to BBB to get some contacts solution they don't sell at the warehouses and usually go to Discover GC redemption first. Didn't see BBB available so I did a search to find out what was going on. I didn't redeem any Black Friday b/c they didn't have a good sale on top of the usual discount so I figured I'll just redeem before I need it b/c you can't upload BBB GCs to Gyft anymore for easy access.

      • Not true, the same baby strollers at any other retailer is $100 - $200 more. If you know how to stack the coupons properly and use discount gift cards, you can save a lot of money at BBB. (It is also probably the raeson they are going bankrupt.)
