Better Citi American Airlines Offers – Don’t Trust The Affiliate Links

Today the sign up bonus Citi offers on the American Airlines cards changed for those with affiliate links. This has led to lots of blogs promoting inferior offers that pay them a commission. We always present the best possible offers to our readers. Your best option is the following:

Note that both of the above offers require asking for a match. It seems that matching is still working, but they don’t actually reply anymore and the extra 20k miles just post after your statement generates. If you don’t feel comfortable matching then your best offers are as follows:

The sign up bonuses when using an affiliate link are 60,000 miles for the personal and 70,000 miles on the business card. In all honesty generally when this happens the better links disappear after a few days, I suspect this is because sites with affiliate links complain about the better offers being available but I don’t have any evidence of that. Either way support sites that put your best interests first.

  • I applied for this card with the 40k miles + $250 credit and requested to be matched. They said they would send me a letter in the mail to tell me their decision, and the letter I received says that they require a copy of the offer and that the offer must display your name and address. But I only have the link to the webpage that shows the 70k miles offer :/. Would just a printout of this work?

  • I think Doc needs to put a huge disclaimer on these posts for AA cards that matching is not guaranteed anymore. It seems most people are applying believing that the match is almost automatic. Citi has been generous enough to give out these extra free miles for as long as they have and no one really should be complaining if they don't get it

  • I got the 40,000 + $250 offer. Before my first statement even arrived I started a chat with a rep. I said something like: Hey I recently opened this card while booking a flight (true) and it had a 40,000 point offer (I didn't mention the $250). But now I'm seeing offers online for 60,000. I was wondering if I could match to that offer.

The chat rep came back and said he submitted the request to the marketing department. I never heard anything but a week or so later I got a letter:

"Thank you for contacting our Customer Service Team. We added 20,000 American Aadvantinge miles to your account." Blah blah 2 billing periods blah.

  • I applied for the 40K +$250 Business card and am approved, got the card, using it too. Chatted with online rep, requested to be matched to 60k offer, he submitted request for the same. Got letter in mail yesterday to submit proof of 60K offer to be matched. NOW WHERE DO I GET THIS 60K OFFER to send them to be matched? Please advise and if anyone has link of the citi business 60K offer, let me know.

  • Doc, just applied for the Business card and got approved for 40K + $250. Now how do i ask for courtesy match to better offer?

I see 70k and 75k offers available. Can I request match to those?

If not, where is 65K offer to request match to?

  • I was approved for Citi AA Biz card in early April. Thanks DoC for posing the link for $75K. Now I received another mailer for Citi AA Biz with 75K miles with no mention of 24 months language. Looks like the mailer was mailed few days after the approval. Can I get two AA Biz cards if I apply with this special invite number. Just checking if anyone has done this recently. Should I do it after the bonus was posted from first card? Thanks for the advise.

  • Well, not exactly Statement Credit, in general. This is Statement Credit for AA purchases. If I don't intend to make such purchases, I can't really use It.

      • I also requested a match via chat and received a letter via snail mail asking for proof of the 65,000 mile offer. Mailed in letter so we'll see if I get the added bonus and statement credits offer

        • ‘Mailed in letter .. ‘ - what letter did you mail in? Unless you were targeted, I’m not sure what ‘letter’ you can send them

  • I just applied for the Business card and got approved for 40K + $250. Now how do i ask for courtesy match to 75k?
