Bilt Making Changes To Loyalty Program

Bilt is making significant changes to its loyalty program. There are more ways to earn points, but the requirements for each status tier are changing as well.

New Tiers

  • Blue: basic status tier, you get this for signing up
  • Silver: requires 50,000 points or $10,000 in  non-rent spend on a Bilt Mastercard, or other linked Mastercard, American Express, or Visa card (previously 25,000 points)
  • Gold: requires 125,000 points or $25,000 in  non-rent spend on a Bilt Mastercard, or other linked Mastercard, American Express, or Visa card (previously 50,000 points)
  • Platinum: requires 200,000 points or $50,000 in  non-rent spend on a Bilt Mastercard, or other linked Mastercard, American Express, or Visa card (previously 100,000 points)

New Ways To Earn Points

  • spend on SoulCycle classes booked in the Bilt app and at Bilt Dining restaurants with any card linked in your Bilt Wallet
  • spend on Lyft rideshare when Bilt is set as your rewards partner in the Lyft app
  • spend in the Bilt Travel Portal

Milestone Rewards

Every 25,000 points you earn will unlock special rewards as you work your way towards elite status

Our Verdict

Currently the main perk for status is receiving higher transfer bonuses during rent days (e.g base level member might receive a 75% bonus whereas Platinum receives 150% bonus). Bilt has said that this will continue, but new perks will be added for elites as well. It looks like it’ll be significantly harder for most people to earn status than before, how worth it that is will really depend on these new benefits and what the milestone rewards are.

  • I don't think that "non-rent spend on a Bilt Mastercard, or other linked Mastercard, American Express, or Visa card" is correct

Looking at the updated terms and conditions that Bilt published, the part about spend on other cards looks like it's only about Bilt Dining, since it says

    """
Tier Status earned through the Fast Track is based on the cumulative amount of dollars spent:
    1) on the Bilt Mastercard® (not including rent),
    2) on net rideshare purchases of rides booked through the Lyft® app when Bilt Rewards is set as the active loyalty partner in the Lyft® app,
    3) on purchases made in the Bilt Travel Portal,
    4) on purchases at Bilt Dining restaurants using any eligible card in the Bilt Member’s Bilt Wallet,
    5) on SoulCycle® classes booked through the Bilt Rewards app or website,
    6) and at other merchants clearly identified by Bilt as being part of the Rewards program at the time the purchase was made, but explicitly excluding dollars spent on Rent.

  • @william there is a typo in the Platinum tier. It is $50k spend, not $25k. Post currently says $25k requirement for both gold/plat

  • completely useless, as are the minimalist bonus categories. Rent and a few small charges/month only. Wondering if I should be transfering the points more often.

  • Beware of Bilt. I was an early member and have noticed a steady decline in customer service and policies in recent months. It leads me to wonder if they are facing substantial pressure to keep the lights on and if I should cash out my 100K points before it's too late.

  • Seems crazy: You can pay $3,000/month in rent (which is not cheap rent!) and not even have status under the new elite requirements. Can't call Bill stupid for doing this though. Their business model, at its core, is highly unprofitable and so they've decided to align elite tiers to how much someone is actually worth to Bilt rather than how much someone spends on rent.

Imagine they will keep making it tougher and tougher for someone to pay their monthly rent and cash out Hyatt points without other spend in the Bilt ecosystem.

  • I hope that it applies to earning going forward and does not affect those with current tiered status. Shouldn't current status still be good for a year and then drop once one doesn't meet the new requirements?

  • Disclaimer
I am jealous of the huge 2x transfer bonus that they have run in the past but as I don't rent and am not a blogger with referral links, I do not see a way to amass a large balance of Bilt rewards.

However all the bloggers love Bilt, which makes me skeptical. The one opposing view I have read certainly gave me food for thought about if this is sustainable... https://www.offthebeatenpoints.com/bilt-has-a-problem/

    • some of those that promote it are partners/owners in the card so be careful.. some of their offers are really good, but i pretty much usually only use it for rent. even their 2x on the 1st isnt as good as some of my other cards
