Capital One has made changes to the Venture X price match terms. Previously you’d receive a statement credit for the difference, whereas now you receive a travel credit.

  • You'd think they'd at least get around to opening up more than 1 lounge before starting to nerf the card

    Still waiting in DEN...

  • Since I got my x card, they eliminated non lounge experiences then there is no lounge at LAX and now policy for travel credit.
Time for me to look for another card.

  • Don't understand why everyone is getting their panties in a knot over this, threatening to cancel the card (still an amazing value and way better than the Amex Plat). This is a minor tweak to a minor feature that probably most people don't even know about or care about. I rarely use the travel booking portal except to use up my $300 allowance. I've used the price match before and it was very easy. I'd rather have the cash than a credit but see this as a nothingburger

    • Death by a thousand paper cuts. Your perspective is exactly what they are hoping most will have and continue renewing their card. I'm not saying it isn't worth it but how many small devaluations is too many?

  • I've had good luck with the price match so far. Successfully price matched Expedia and booking.com prices for 3 hotels prior to the transition from statement credit to travel credit and once again just the other day after the switch to travel credit. Surprised to see so many comments about people have difficulty getting a price matched based on my overall positive experience thus far. Price matched for amounts varying from 50 to 200 per night

  • I had a horrible experience with price match where I literally showed the cheaper price on the hotel site with screen grabs, walked through on the phone with the rep, and they still wouldn't price match. Their agent said she couldn't get the price to show for her and "maybe it's because I'm in Costa Rica". Capital One for sure has the worst customer service out of the top tier CCs.

  • I was going to keep this card but with recent changes, goodbye at renewal. I may cash out or downgrade to Venture One

    • Same. Even though on paper it seems it's way easier to get the money's worth compared to amex plat. But in reality it adds so much more stress with the portal travel and now travel credits. Im downgrading it next month.

  • Curious how often this is usable. The trend of "secret member pricing," where Hotels.com, Hilton, or whoever charges a 10% markup unless you sign in, means I've rarely been able to get prices matched by non-boutique hotels recently. But that's trying to book directly; I can see why VX holders would want to book via portal, so long as they can match the best rate.

      • It's for any travel booked through the portal where you can show a lower publicly available price.

      • They price match for hotels. I've gotten a match twice. They will not allow you to match if you have to log in to see the price.

  • One negative of the travel credit is that it's one-time-use, at least in the one experience I had using one. When I went to cancel the flight (24 hour cancellation) that was booked partially with travel credit, it refunded only the amount from card and the travel credit was forfeited.

    • I got a travel credit for a flight price drop, used it as part of a hotel booking, and then had to cancel the hotel booking. I still see the credit as available. But maybe the price match credit is different than the price drop credit?

      • The price match credit does not expire. At least as long as the card is open I guess.
