Last month, in an apparent glitch, the regular $150 signup bonus on the Capital One no-fee SavorOne card was showing at $500 instead. We initially reported on the bonus, then updated the post with the warning that the fine print is showing the bonus, actually, as $150.
Good news came out today with Capital One emailing those who signed up during the glitch that they’ll be honoring the $500 bonus offer. Additionally, the wording sounds like you don’t even need to spend the full $3,000; just spending the $500 should get you the full bonus.
This case was one where it was borderline by me whether Capital One absolutely had to honor the bonus, being that the fine print showed the $150 offer. Regardless, it’s nice to see them honoring it, especially given that some people did not notice the $150 in the fine print. Turned out to be a terrific deal for a no-fee credit card.

There is a current ongoing Class-action lawsuit filed against Capital One. Anyone here who is affected should contact this law firm handling the lawsuit:

Has anyone received the $500 yet without spending the 3k? I'm concerned that their wording was poor and that you will have to spend the 3k to get the $500 but would love some additional insight. I just read @Andy's comment about how he received it but did spend the 3k
Aug 3rd they paid $150 bonus. Aug 29th was my 90 days. Sept 3rd closing no bonus. I finally got the extra $350 bonus on Sept 15th. I had been putting off calling because it is such a hassle, glad I waited!
This was work but worth it for $500! DOC ROCKS again!
I did not receive it either
I called and was told it will be investigated. Customer service had no knowledge of this and seemed surprised I would get the extra 350 just for spending 500. I had already spent more than 500 dollars and less than 3,000 dollars and got 150 credited even though I signed up for the 500 dollar bonus.
That was my concern with calling CS that they would have no idea about this one off situation. Please let us know Pete if they give you a clear answer, from the description in the email it doesn't sound like we have to spend the 3k but im afraid we will to hit the spending threshold
They never called me back as promised but customer service made a $350 cash back adjustment in my account today and so I got the $500 bonus as promised and did not need to spend the $3000 minimum. Not sure if they just did this for me or pushed them all through today.
Update -They called me to tell me they adjusted my account based on my inquiry so it looks like you may need to cal in to get this done. This took a few business days to get to the right department and for the adjustment to be made.
Thanks for the update! i have not gotten the additional 350 yet (not spending 3k) but will be calling support today!
No email from them, but my $500 bonus posted today. I had already spent the $3k, so no idea if it would have triggered at the $500 level.
While a bank doesn't have to honor anything, it appears that C1 decided to literally apply the doctrine of contra proferentem. The contract stated that the applicant must spend 3000 to get 500. It also stated that the applicant must spend 500 to get 150. So when read together, the effective offer was spend 3000 or 500 to get 500 or 150. So the best deal for the consumer is spend 500 to get 500.
Great deal for those who got it. I didn’t bother with the stinginess of CapOne CC approvals but almost wish I had taken the risk.
C1 is on the roll this week. First $506 checks for denied account bonuses, now this...
Now if I could only ever get approved for one of their freaking cards Cap One would be kings of the banking world. Drop the 3 HP's as well.
I received the email as well. I wonder if my case I put in ultimately helped spark this. I faxed my screenshot along with a letter to them yesterday. After speaking with a rep there, she seemed optimistic it would get honored. Glad it worked out! I really didn't expect to get $500 after 500 spend. I was really kicking myself after doing this but I'm glad to see CO honor it.
OMG! I applied and was approved. Then was told they would NOT honor this so the next day I told them to CLOSE the account, I did not want it. AAUUGH!! (Pounding head on desk!) and YES, I received the email from Capital One about an hour ago!!
Why would you ask them to close... you don't deserve the bonus after that.
Because I was angry and not thinking clearly. Regretted it the next day. Haven't you ever made a mistake? The game is a constant learning process, and just when I think I know the rules, they change again.....
You still could have gotten the $150 for the HP.
and a hit to 5/24 slot, hard to put a price tag on that.
call bakc and see if they'll open with same terms
Yes, I thought I would try that, Can't hurt to ask.....
did they agree?
nope.
Serious question, why would closing the account under any circumstances help especially when you have got a hardpull and having the account would have increased credit limit?
The customer rep said there was no way that offer existed and basically called me a liar. I won't bother to go into details of the long conversation, but the rude way he treated us on the phone is what caused us to get so angry I told him to shove the card. I realized I screwed up after I cooled off, but too late then. No sense in telling me I made a stupid mistake, I realize that now. I allowed my anger to affect my common sense. I should have hung up and called back after I cooled off. We called last night and the rep was very nice and professional, but said there was no way to reopen the card. And I escalated to a manager and she was yawning and sounded bored as she also said no way to reopen the card. My oldest card is with them; 27 years, but that fact did not get me anywhere as well. I am just sick about how badly I screwed up.
After receiving a letter about Chase honoring the mistake bonus, we called and asked them if they would re-open the account. We told them how the rep was so rude to us that it made us angry and we reacted poorly. 1st rep said no, but was very nice and sympathetic. We asked to escalate to supervisor, supervisor sounded bored and wanted to quickly end the call. We pressed and she said she could put in a request to the reconsideration department and that can take up to 2 weeks. We said yes please try it even though they sounded like it was a waste of time. Shocker! They DID reinstate the card AND said they would honor the bonus! We got so incredibly lucky!! Hit the credit card lotto! And yes, I promise to hang up and think about it overnight before telling a rep to close a card in the future.!!!
Thank you! They FINALLY paid the extra $350 mid September without another painful phone call. I had been putting off the call because it is such a hassle. Glad I waited! And yes this was definitely a leaning opportunity for me! LOL!
And at worst you were getting $150 out of it lol. A rageclose isn't worth that.
Darn, I was seconds away from submitting my application when I had second guesses based on some comments here warning that they wouldn't honor it. Oh well.
Dang, wish I'd applied.
Mee too
