Cardless Reporting Manchester United Cards To Credit Reports, Despite Assurances It Wouldn’t [Update]

Update 1/27/22: Reddit user SagittandiEstVita e-mail’d cardless and they stated they would get Experian to remove the card if they agreed to close their account. A few days after closing the card the card was removed from their report.

Original post 1/29/22: Cardless is reporting Manchester United credit cards to credit reports (1,2,3). At the time the card launched Cardless President/Co-Founder stated that the card wouldn’t report to credit reports and wouldn’t count towards 5/25 status as confirmed by VFTW. This changed at May 18, 6:00 a.m. Eastern. Despite this assurance applications before that time are now appearing on credit reports.

  • Stay away from cardless credit cards, they do not monitor fraud and they do not have a fraud call center off hours. A friend of mine had there number stolen. Couldn’t get a hold of anyone and left him liable for fraudulent charges. All around bad business!!!

  • I am not sure what the best course of action is for me. I opened the card 5/17/21 and have a $400 credit balance from redeeming points. Should I close the account and request it to be removed from my report? Of course I need to use up the balance or request a check first.

    • If you're able to request a check, please let us know. I would make sure to get your points in cash before you close.

  • Just to add a factor to the discussion. I signed up for the 30k points SUB and a couple of months ago there was also another bonus 10k points for existing customers after spending an additional 1k, which I thought was very nice and also fairly unusual. Wondering if anyone has reason to think Cardless will be offering more such spending bonuses to all existing customers in the future?

  • I called two days ago to close my card. Surprisingly they say they cannot close it over the phone, their process is they open a ticket, then some time later I would get an email, where I would have to click a confirmation link. No email for two days. Has everything gone through that to close the card? And if yes, how long did it take to get that email?

    • Also called in to close today (they also "confirmed" that in closing, they would remove reports of the account to bureaus). No mention of clicking a link later, but did say it would take 3-5 business days.

  • This dumb card reporting on my CR only delays my going under 5/24 by 2 months, otherwise I’d probably be more outraged.

        • fair enough. i was just curious which chase cards everyone so eagerly wait to apply for. there's only so many sapphire, ink and freedom cards one can have with the 24/48 month limits.
