[Expired] Cathay Pacific: 50% Transfer Bonus (Hotel Programs, Excluding SPG & Marriott)

Deal has expired, view more Cathay Pacific deals by clicking here.

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Cathay Pacific is offering a 50% transfer bonus when you transfer hotel points (excluding SPG & Marriott)

The Fine Print

  • The “Hotel Points Conversion Campaign from Participating Hotel Partners” (“Promotion”) is valid from 1 December 2018 (starting from 00:00 GMT+8) to 31 January 2019 (until 23:59 GMT+8), based on points conversion date (“activity date”), both dates inclusive (“Promotion Period”).

Our Verdict

Really pointless promotion when Marriott/SPG isn’t available, the other transfer rates are all terrible.

The IHG one could be ok if you buy points at 0.5 cents each. That’s 2.5c/1.5 asia miles which is 1.67 cents each. If you know what you’re doing it’s fairly easy to get that much value from asia miles, although less so now than before the last devaluation.

for the last 4 years i have yet to see premium award availability on nyc to hkg route. make sure your route has availability before wasting the points.

I just flew that route over christmas and returned on 1/6. First class both ways. Pretty good availability if you know what you’re doing with married segments.

Yeah the rates are terrible, but if you are like me and have 5k free IHG points from their recent online promotion, and have no intention of staying at any IHG hotels, then might as well get 1500 miles instead of letting them expire.
