Our Verdict

This offer comes around on a semi frequent basis, but it’s the higher offer they do offer. The standard bonus is 75,000 Avios (same as above just without the last 25,000 bonus after $20,000 total spend). Chase just launched the Aer Lingus card as well with the same bonus and benefits (Iberia card also currently has the same bonus). British Airways is a distance based award chart and Avios is a transfer partner of:

  • SPG
  • Chase Ultimate Rewards
  • American Express Membership Rewards

If you’re considering applying for this card, you’ll first want to read about these things everybody should know about Chase credit cards.

  • Arrggghhh has this offer died right before I want to jump on it? As pointed out above, the direct link now points to the 4x up to120K offer, and when I browse all cards the British, Iberia & Aer Lingus all are the same.

Does anyone have a way to still get the 50K after 3K etc offer?

  • Got an email from BA with a 100k + $200 statement credit offer. Offrr terms are similar except that it's additional 20k spend, not total 20k. I don't k know how to upload screenshot here. I think it is a worse deal compared to the previous one, as 200 statement credit barely offset the opportunity cost of spending additional 10k, and you need to get that high spending to get the final 25k bonus, but I guess it make sense to people who highly value avoid (which I don't).
No link as the link in email directs me to CFU. What a citi level IT work.
    @will

  • I know you can transfer SPG/UR/MR to avios, but can you do the opposite? Can you transfer Avios to SPG or MR or UR? I can't seem to find info about transferring that way. Thanks for any help with this.

  • You should also mention that those with high amounts of opened cards the past year should take caution as there are a lot of DPs that opening Chase cards (Especially those cards not under 5/24 rule) will cause them to shutdown all your chase cards

    • I was wondering about this...what is considered a high amount of cards with regard to having Chase take notice?

      • I read those who have outstanding loans (i.e., mortgage and car) haven't been shut down by Chase. It's not a churner issue it's an IRS scammer issue. I guess people have been pretending to be good customers while racking up high amounts of debt then all of a sudden they drop off the face of the Earth leaving Chase (or whomever) to pay the debt. I read this somewhere but can't remember where.

  • 100k Avois is enough to get you 200 dollars off a round trip to Europe. Best use would probably be 700 dollars of hotels through their travel portal.

    • Best uses of this card are:
      1) short flights within Europe. If you have 100,000 points you can fly a lot as the points are only 4,500 for economy pretty much anywhere in Europe.
      2) Fly from California to Hawaii
      3) Fly within Australia

    • Done this card 3x and twice for my wife over a number of years. Each 100k is worth about $2,000 to my family. We've gone to Hawaii 7x from CA in the last 6 years. There is the benefit of going from West Coast to HI based on distance so it works for us. We also flew direct from San Diego to Dublin round trip last summer for 200,000 Avios total (4 of us in coach). Long flight but saved us about $7,000. So the assertion that 100k Avios are worth only $200 is a bit pessimistic for anyone really, not just us.

      • Lol you didn't save 7k. How much did you pay for those free tickets to Dublin? On east coast I can pay for tickets to Dublin for cheaper than free tickets using Avois. We are going to Dublin from PHL next month on American and tickets are 549 RT. We paid 60k points plus 49 dollar fees. On BA it would be 60k Avois and 450 dollars in fuel surcharges. As it doesn't cost over 1000 dollars to fly from San Diego to Philly it isn't even possible to save 7k on 4 people to Dublin in coach. And if you fly Boston to Dublin tickets would be less than 500. I am sure you could easily do less than 800 a person from San Diego to Dublin.

  • In terms of getting bonus more than once for Chase cards, I know I can get the sign up bonus again as long as it’s been at least 24 months since I last received the bonus.

How do Chase consider "last received bonus" for BA card? The initial 50K bonus after 3000, or 25K bonus if I did the extra spending? Thank you.

    • Would think their system would categorize each as a bonus. Obviously to be safe you would wait 24 months after the last bonus. Personally I don't think it would be worth the risk, but YMMV.

  • I did this deal a couple years back thinking I could use avios to book domestic American Airlines flights. Just a heads-up - in my experience, it is INSANELY hard to find award space. You just have to get lucky. I wouldn't count on ever being able to use the miles if you really needed them.

    • For West Coast to HI, it's not been hard for us using Avios for Alaska Airlines (Tier II partner of British Airways) during peak periods in the summer. I always booked about a year in advance or close to it.

It would depend on the routes you will be taking and the airlines of course. But we have been fortunate using Avios on Alaska and American metal for the last 7 years or so.
