Chase Changes Up Signup Bonus On Freedom Cards With 4 Separate Offers (New $250 Offer & 5% Gas Offer)

The signup bonus on the Chase Freedom cards has long been $200/20,000 points with $500 spend. For the past couple of years, Chase has been offering an additional bonus of 5%/5x back at Grocery Stores during your first cardmember year, up to $12,000 in spend, on both the Freedom Unlimited and Freedom Flex cards.

Over the past few days, we began seeing two new offer versions; there are now four different offers you might see when searching for the Freedom cards. Apparently, Chase is either planning to end soon the Grocery offer version or, more likely, is in testing stages to see what works.

  1. New: Get $250/25,000 with $500 spend.
  2. New: Get $200/20,000 with $500 spend, plus get 5% back at Gas Stations during the first year, up to $6,000 spend.
  3. Get $200/20,000 with $500 spend, plus 5% back at Grocery Stores during the first year, up to $12,000. This is the regular offer we’ve been seeing for the past number of months, and is also the offer currently showing via referral links.
  4. Get $200/20,000 with $500 spend. No additional bonus.

There’s no special link to find the new offers, just doing a regular search turns up the different offers each time for me. I see the Gas Station offer at this link, for example, though you might not see it there. I see the $250 offer (sometimes) at this link, though you might not see it. The $250 version is the hardest to find from the four offers.

Personally, I’d prefer the Grocery bonus option, though some might prefer the $250 upfront bonus and others might like the Gas category more than Grocery (albeit with lower limits). If you like the Grocery offer, be aware there is a chance of it getting pulled in the coming months.
